The Age Old Question: Who Walked Away At Their Peak? Jul 20, 2022
    Show notes

    • The first rule of show biz: "always leave them wanting more."

    • Did Milli Vanilli walk away on top?

    • When Sting walked away from The Police, they were the biggest band in the world.

    • Few bands have had a bigger impact on their genre and music generally as Outkast, and yet...

    • The Beatles were still arguably the biggest band in the world when they announced they were done.

    • The drummer of REM walked away from it all in 1995.

    • Lauryn Hill walked away on top twice, first from The Fugees and then after one and only solo debut.

    • Let's Go To The Comments

    • Fed up with the the music industry, Bill Withers walked away on his own terms.

Imbalanced History: Albums Turning Fifty In 2022! Jul 18, 2022
    Show notes

The only task more daunting in recent memory than this week's expedition to 1972, is LAST year's trip back to 1971, and that year's massive release of music! Some of the names are the same, but many are new, or renewed. More bands, still bound to the old school record label release schedules, make two appearances in '72.

Other years would continue to make major impact, but 1971/1972 back-to-back? Tough to top!

So, strap into The Imbalanced Time Machine, and let's go!!!

The Ugly American Werewolf in London Rock Podcast UAWIL #85: Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance at 40 Jul 17, 2022
    Show notes

Prior to Screaming for Vengeance, Judas Priest had solidified their stature as a heavy metal act around the world but not so much in the US. Though 1980's British Steel gave them some chart success in the UK & other parts of the world, big success in the States still eluded them.

Thanks to You've Got Another Thing Comin', Priest was able to get on MTV and graduate to headlining arena shows in North America. We examine this heavy metal classic as it turns 40, the Wolf relives seeing them in the front row, how this record holds up today & the legacy of Judas Priest.

Performance Anxiety: Isobel Campbell Jul 17, 2022
    Show notes

It was so much fun talking with Isobel Campbell. We hit on so many topics; some you’d expect like starting with Belle & Sebastian, working with Mark Lanegan, the effect COVID had on her projects, and what she’s working on now. But we also talk about some things that you might not expect like how church music influenced her, how a cheeseburger and Annie Hall were the reasons she left Belle & Sebastian mid-tour, getting kicked out of orchestra, and what she did during a decade long hiatus from the music business.

Isobel was incredibly gracious to speak with me so soon after Mark Lanegan’s passing and we do discuss their music and relationship quite a bit. And she’s got some great news about some reissues and new projects that should make everybody happy. Give her a follow on social media @isobelcampbellmusic on Instagram, @Isobel_Campbell on Twitter, pick up her music on Bandcamp or wherever you buy music. Follow us @PerformanceAnx on Twitter & Instagram. You can help us out with a review, with a coffee at ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety, or with merch at performanceanx.threadless.com. And I hope you enjoy this chat with Isobel Campbell on Performance Anxiety, part of the Pantheon Podcast Network.
