UAWIL #86: Duran Duran Live in Hyde Park Jul 24, 2022
    Show notes

Growing up in the 80s in the US meant being awestruck and beholden to MTV. Seeing artists from all over the world bring their music, color and performances to the small screen opened up the world to those trying to navigate the suburbs. For our generation, Duran Duran was as close as we got to the 2nd coming of The Beatles with their fashion, sound and innovative videos.

To wrap up an amazing summer concert series at Hyde Park in London which included two Rolling Stones shows for The Wolf, he took The Wolf Cub so she could dance to her favorite 80s tunes. A little warmer than the first two weekends, we navigated the sun, the groups of moms on a night out and those nostalgic for the heyday of their youth.

Hear about Nile Rodgers jumping on stage for a couple of songs, how Nick Rhodes may have misfired A View To A Kill a song early, about the lovely and talented Anna Ross and Rachael O'Connor and how we made our escape. It was a colorful and fun night in London!

My Rock Moment The Stone Age: Sixty Years of the Rolling Stones with best selling biographer Lesley-Ann Jones Jul 24, 2022
    Show notes

Today we’ll be hopping across the pond to discuss The Rolling Stones with journalist, broadcaster and best selling biographer, Lesley Ann Jones. Jones is the author of The Search for John Lennon; Bohemian Rhapsody: The Definitive Biography of Freddie Mercury; and Hero: David Bowie. A childhood friend of David Bowie, Lesley-Ann has interviewed many of the world's most-loved artists, including Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney, Madonna, and Prince, often forming lifelong friendships with her subjects.

Jones has written a new book: The Stone Age: 60 Years of The Rolling Stones, and we discuss the book’s fresh perspective on the band. The Stones are bigger than a band, they are a brand – and their reputation has somehow survived the rumors, indiscretions and drug fueled tales that might bring down lesser known bands. The book aims to look at these seemingly infallible men with the lens of today.

You can find information on the book as well as Lesley-Ann’s other books with the links below:
