Bob Dylan: About Man And God And Law - Holiday Specialette Part Two - Must Be Santa Dec 18, 2020
    Show notes

Every musical artist comes up against a few musical mountains to climb. Perhaps the highest, good tidingest mountain of them all is the Christmas album. Elvis did one. Bing Crosby and the Jackson Five too. And so did Bob Dylan, 2009’s Christmas in the Heart. “Must Be Santa” was the single. Now what exactly was that all about?

    Show notes

We're back this week to pick our favorite bass and drum combos with our Rhythm Section Draft! While the singer and guitarist tend to get the most fanfare in bands, there's nothing like a groove being laid down by the bass and drums. When this unit is locked in, it can produce magical results.

The rock genre has been home to some amazing rhythm sections from the 60's on. With so many to choose from, we go back and forth and pick our choices. 20 total picks are made (10 for each of us). We think you'll agree with some picks and probably be infuriated with others.

Got an idea of YOUR Top 10 rhythm sections? List them below in the comments! We hope you enjoy our Rhythm Section Draft and SHARE with a friend!

Goldmine: Collecting Christmas Records Dec 17, 2020
    Show notes

Happy Holiday season 2020! Goldmine can't think of a better way to get into the Christmas spirit than discussing Christmas records. Longtime Goldmine writer Tim Neely wrote a great piece in the January print edition — on newsstands now at select Barnes and Noble, Books A Million and indie record stores —where he talks about building a Christmas album collection in a cost-effective way.

On the podcast, Tim Neely will take us through the various, classic Christmas records to collect:

    • Vintage Christmas collections put out by the record labels’ special-markets divisions for retail stores like Goodyear, Firestone, True Value Hardware, Grants and others

    • Beloved Christmas compilations like A Christmas Gift for You From Philles Records and others

    • Single artists' Christmas albums from Barbra Streisand, Andy Williams, Nat King Cole and others

*How a Christmas song written by Twisted Sister vocalist Dee Snider became one of the largest selling singles for Celine Dion

*Contemporary Christmas records and modern classics from Band Aid, Trans-Siberian Orchestra and others

    And more...

We'll play examples from the various records mentioned while we talk about the legacy of Christmas records.
