No Filler: Lighten Things Up A Little - The Presidents of the United States of America Apr 13, 2021
    Show notes

As lead-singer and two-string bass player Chris Ballew once observed of the grunge scene of the early nineties: "I wonder if we could lighten things up a little?" Thus The Presidents of the United States was born, a three-piece rock group from grunge's birthplace with one mission: to make grunge and alt-rock music without the themes of angst, depression, etc. With unforgettable singles like "Lump", "Peaches", and "Dune Buggy", The Presidents injected a little bit of fun and left a lasting impression on the rock landscape of the early nineties.

    Tracklist:

    1. Presidents of the United States of America - Lump
    2. Caspar & Mollusk - Twig
    3. Presidents of the United States of America - Stranger
    4. Presidents of the United States of America - Boll Weevil
    5. Presidents of the United States of America - Body
    6. Presidents of the United States of America - Kitty
    7. Caspar Babypants - Baby Bear
    8. Presidents of the United States of America - Peaches

Performance Anxiety: Richard Black (Shark Island) Apr 13, 2021
    Show notes

I know I’ve mentioned that when I starting thinking about doing this podcast, I had a top ten list of guests I wanted to have. Some were obvious and others less so. This one is one of the top three. Richard Black is the singer for the band Shark Island. They played in the LA area beginning in the late 70’s through to the early 90’s. They released one major label album and a handful of songs on soundtracks. But that was it. Richard fronted the short lived hard rock supergroup Contraband and then left music completely. But after finding a new passion in metal sculpture, Shark Island has returned with 2 studio albums and one live release.

Richard is very candid with me and we spent a long time discussing his careers; setting bars low to avoid disappointment; watching grunge change the musical landscape, particularly in LA;demoing songs with Skid Row as his backing band, and recording in 432 instead 440. Check out the music at sharkislandmusic.com and follow their socials. Follow us @PerformanceAnx. Please rate & review. You can buy us a coffee @ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety. Merch designed by Mark Dancey of Soundgarden’s Badmotorfinger fame is at performanceanx.threadless.com. Let’s dive into Richard Black of Shark Island on Performance Anxiety, part of the Pantheon Podcast Network.
