Long May You Young 51: Greendale Jun 10, 2021
    Show notes

It's the crazy season, Youngsters! Luke's hundreds of kids are all in the playoffs, Town Meeting is back up and booking summer shows like crazy, Mike is on the radio constantly and hunting Italian grinders in his downtime. What we're trying to say is, the pandemic it seems is coming to an end (Hallelujah!), and our lives are starting to explode again! So apologies in advance for the next few episodes - they may be scattered or short, but we will stay the course! And hopefully by the end of the month we'll have our schedules ironed out a little better.

But that's neither here nor there. What's important is that we talk about Neil Young. And specifically the gem that is Prairie Wind! Although we don't get to all of it, we do cover some important topics: Neil's father passing, the discovery of an aneurysm, name dropping Chris Rock, etc.

Unfortunately this episode gets cut short (Luke's fault), but we vow to finish it ASAP! Next episode look for the conclusion of Prairie Wind and possibly a little Heart of Gold as well. We appreciate you bearing with us! See you next time, Youngsters.

Songfacts Podcast: Aaron Lee Tasjan Jun 09, 2021
    Show notes

Aaron Lee Tasjan, who looks like a character from That '70s Show but sounds like Tom Petty (even Petty's drummer thinks so), makes a kind of unpredictable, mind-bending music that addresses concerns specific to his generation: digital overload, mental health, identity. But this isn't the confessional songwriting you're used to. It's presented with a nod and a wink to take the edge off.

After bouncing from Delaware to California, to New York City, Tasjan's current home is Nashville, where he spoke to us about his latest album, Tasjan! Tasjan! Tasjan!, and some tracks from his back catalogue. He was recently interviewed by Sir Elton John, which is where we'll start.

Today we have the distinct pleasure of speaking with concert promoter extraordinaire, Danny Zelisko. He’s worked with the biggest names in rock and roll and he’s just released a book that’s full of great stories and pictures. He talks about DJ’ing a Led Zeppelin gig, helping Hall of Fame pitcher Randy Johnson warm up, flying to LA on an air mail flight, and the day to day life of a concert promoter. It’s a fascinating look behind the scenes of how your favorite bands end up in your favorite venues. Pick up the book on amazon or at dzplive.com. Follow Danny on social media. No Filler: French Kicks "Swimming" - How A Garage Rock Band Went Out On Their Own Terms Jun 08, 2021
    Show notes

If you were a garage rock, post-punk band from the 2000s, chances are your music was going to be compared to The Strokes, or Interpol, or fill-in-the-blank heavy-hitter from that era. For the French Kicks (a band from you guessed it: New York), they couldn't shed the comparisons, and their moderately popular releases never caught on like their fellow New Yorkers did. So on their self-produced fourth album (and unfortunately their last), Swimming, they decided to stop trying. And the resulting record ended up being on of their most endearing, with stripped-down intimate songs chock full of poppy hooks and catchy choruses.

    Tracklist

    1. French Kicks - Abandoned
    2. French Kicks - New Man
    3. French Kicks - Said So What
    4. French Kicks - Knee High
    5. French Kicks - The Way You Arrive
    6. French Kicks - Love In The Ruins
