Prisoners of Rock and Roll 25: Exiled with The Rolling Stones Sep 14, 2021
    Show notes

Exile on Main Street by the Rolling Stones is one of the greatest albums by the greatest bands in rock and roll. The story of how this record was made is a wild one. The band had fled the UK to avoid a huge tax bill, and they recorded most of it in the basement of a villa Keith Richards rented in Southern France that the Gestapo used for a headquarters in WWII. The house became a revolving door of celebrities, heroin, and music. On this episode of Prisoners of Rock and Roll, we honor the passing of great Charlie Watts by going track by track through Exile on Main Street and talking about the stories behind the album. Show notes

The legendary independent roots label Rounder Records was born in 1970. Founder and author Bill Nowlin said “it was a hobby that got out of control.” His new book is the story of three people with no background in business who took an idea and, through hard work and passion, built up something of lasting cultural significance.

Bill joins us to take us through those fifty years, with stories about the music business, and his partners, roots music, George Thorogood and The Destroyers, Studio One and Jamaica, 15-year -old prodigy Alison Krauss, her record with Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant, and the role of record labels today.

The Band: A History: Interview - The Manuel Archive Sep 14, 2021
    Show notes

Originally released on The Band: A History's Patreon. We sit down and talk with Breanna McCann, the curator and archivist behind the new project The Manuel Archive.

We discuss her love of The Band, and how it started with their song "Acadian Driftwood", her passion for sixties and seventies culture, film and music and what her motivation was for starting The Manuel Archive. Breanna also talks about her interest in Richard Manuel as well as her opinion on his portrayal from writers, critics and his own bandmates.

It was a pleasure to talk about The Band and Richard with Breanna, anytime there is a new project that I come across that is related to The Band it gets me ecstatic. I encourage you all to follow The Manuel Archive on Twitter.

For those interested in the song playing in the intro and outro of the show that is a Richard penned, Band demo entitled "Words and Numbers". Written and demoed sometime in 1967. It was never released on an official Band studio album.

No Filler: Television - Marquee Moon Sep 13, 2021
    Show notes

We're kick starting our dive into post-punk & new wave with a look back at our episode on Television's debut record Marquee Moon from 1977. Alongside Blondie, The Ramones, and other bands that shared the stage at the birthplace of punk in New York City, CBGB, Television was lumped into the punk rock category, and for good reason...but their jazz-improv guitar stylings and sporadic vocals placed them on the other side of that punk rock coin, changing the post-punk game forever.

    Tracklist:

    1. Marquee Moon
    2. See No Evil
    3. Friction
    4. Elevation
    5. The Ventures - Cruel Sea (The Cruel Surf) live in Japan '65

Decibel Geek 454: ROCKNPOD Recap & Rockin' Ron Tribute Sep 13, 2021
    Show notes

We return this week with a show that will run the gamut of emotions as we present our ROCKNPOD Recap and a tribute to our fallen brother Rockin' Ron Runyon. ROCKNPOD Weekend was definitely a blur but we've had time to reflect. In this episode we'll share are thoughts on the entire weekend. Starting from Friday's preparty concert all the way through the comedy show that closed things out on Sunday, we have a lot to reflect on.

Tragically, we recently lost our friend and Decibel Geek TV producer Rockin' Ron Runyon this week after a hard fought battle with cancer. Ron's enthusiam, hard work, and spirit took Decibel Geek to new heights. More importantly, his friendship is going to be missed immensely. We go through some of our favorite Rockin' Ron memories and stories and reflect back on what a blessing he was to so many. Ron was also a huge part of ROCKNPOD and his connection to the event is also discussed.

As we mention in the episode, there's a GoFundMe campaign setup for the Runyon family. You can donate to it at https://gofund.me/5d3b7c82.

We hope you enjoy our ROCKNPOD Recap & Rockin' Ron Tribute and SHARE with a friend.

Decibel Geek is a proud member of the Pantheon Podcasts family.
