Performance Anxiety: Dwayne Dopsie Sep 21, 2021
    Show notes

Thirteen time Offbeat Magazine accordion player of the year and two time Grammy nominee Dwayne Dopsie jumps on the podcast. He’s got zydeco in his blood. His family created the genre! He was going to play zydeco and there was no backup plan. We talk about his music, playing some unusual cover songs, and the possibility of a zydeco concept album. I don’t think he’s completely sold on that yet. We disagree about whipped cream frosting, discuss him being ranked as a reason to visit New Orleans, and being the Ric Flair of accordion. Check out the new album from Dwayne Dopsie & The Zydeco Hellraisers, Set Me Free, wherever you get new music. Follow him @dwaynedopsie on social media. Follow us @PerformanceAnx on social media. We accept coffee at ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety. Merch is at performanceanx.threadless.com. Now get ready to start moving with Dwayne Dopsie on Performance Anxiety on the Pantheon Podcast Network.

Decibel Geek 455: The Producer Switch Sep 21, 2021
    Show notes

We're back this week with a new concept we think you'll enjoy as we ponder The Producer Switch! A producer can, many times, make or break an album. Sometimes they can bring it to another level and, conversely, can hold back the potential of an album. As rock and metal fans, there are numerous examples of albums we all think could have been improved with a different producer at the helm. With that in mind, this week we're making The Producer Switch.

In this episode, we'll switch producers for albums by KISS, Black Sabbath, Enuff Z'nuff, David Lee Roth, Alice Cooper, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, an Ozzy Osbourne. What albums did we pick? What producers are being replaced? You'll have to listen to find out!

We want to hear from YOU! What producer switch would you make to your favorite albums and why? Say so in the comments!

We hope you enjoy The Producer Switch and SHARE with a friend!

No Filler: The Planet-Powering Energy of Talking Head's Remain In Light Sep 21, 2021
    Show notes

Describe Talking Heads groundbreaking 1980 record Remain In Light after hearing it for the first time can be challenging. Or after hearing it for the 2nd, 5th, or 20th time for that matter. The group almost called it quits after the success of Fear Of Music, but quickly found themselves experimenting with African polyrhythms, funk, and electronics in the idyllic Compass Point Studios in the Bahamas. They began utilizing jam sessions as the jumping off point for songs as opposed to David Byrne's lyrics, and took a more collaborative effort to the songwriting process. The result is the astounding, other-worldly, genre-defying record that solidified the Talking Heads as one of the most remarkable rock bands of the 20th century. Join us as we try to find more ways to describe this incredible record, when we aren't speechless that is.

    Tracklist:

    1. Once In A Lifetime
    2. I Zimbra
    3. Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On)
    4. Fela Kuti - Eko Ile
    5. The Great Curve + Live In Rome 1980
    6. Seen And Not Seen

Inside The Banjoverse: Joanne O'Connor - Irish Tenor Banjo Sep 20, 2021
    Show notes

Joanne and I go way back, having come up through the life universities of The Willie Clancy summer school and the Fleadh Cheoil competitions in Ireland. We've had great fun over the years knocking head over our differing opinions on the virtue of playing polkas on a banjo. I'm not a fan, but Joanne finally explains to me how to do it properly!! We take a fond trip down memory lane in this interview, Joanne reminiscing about simpler times playing music as a child growing up in Co Limerick, the "craic" of the fleadhs, the mummers and the wren boys. Joanne is a terrific story teller and even better musician and a truly kind hearted soul.
