"I am the God of Hellfire and I bring you... Arthur Brown!!!"
Ok, I'm not the God of Hellfire, but HE sure as heck is! Arthur Brown is the latest legendary guest to join Paul on Vintage Rock Pod!

Arthur Brown scored a worldwide hit in 1968 with the anthem, 'Fire' and he's dazzled and bewitched fans for decades with elaborate stage shows, a hat of fire, face paint and much more - and now, in the year he turned 80 years old, he's back with more new music! Just months after releasing 'Long Long Road', he returns with the spooktacular 'Monsters Ball'! The guests involved on the record is seriously impressive, including Deep Purple's Ian Paice, The Stooges James Williamson, Vanilla Fudge's Carmine Appice and Mark Stein, Hawkwind's Nik Turner and Alan Davey and many more!

Arthur joins me to talk about this spooky new record which features a cover of the Syd Barrett written Pink Floyd song 'Lucifer Sam' and a new version of his hit 'Fire'. We also talk about that incredible song, his crazy stage shows, his friendship with Jimi Hendrix which saw them almost form a band together, his new documentary and so much more! This is one not to miss!!

Is It Rolling, Bob? Talking Dylan: Jeff Hanna Oct 30, 2022
    Show notes

Jeff Hanna, founder member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, is a team player. He has played with Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Johnny Cash, Jackson Browne, John Prine, Levon Helm, Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss, Rosanne Cash, Linda Ronstadt and Matraca Berg. Oh, and Roger McGuinn, Jason Isbell, Rodney Crowell, Jerry Douglas, Sam Bush, Larry Campbell and... Lee Marvin. Plus Mother Maybelle Carter (“my first guitar hero”), June Carter Cash, Earl Scruggs, Doc Watson, Roy Acuff and Vassar Clements.

Whether labelled Americana, Country Rock, Bluegrass or Traditional Country, the NGDB have come a long way since their early days as a Southern Californian jug band. Their most recent album is Dirt Does Dylan. Jeff sums it up: “Dylan was our North Star. He was always in the conversation. We would analyse every morsel of that sandwich”. Bring your appetite: this is a particularly tasty episode.

Jeff Hanna has hundreds of recording credits as a composer, vocalist, arranger, producer and acoustic, electric, steel, slide and twelve-string guitarist. The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band recorded their first hit “Buy For Me The Rain” in 1967. An even bigger hit followed in 1970: a cover of Jerry Jeff Walker’s “Mr. Bojangles,” with Jeff on vocals and guitar - it was eventually inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. In 1971, the band and Jeff recorded Will The Circle Be Unbroken, one of the most influential albums of the era, introducing a generation of young musicians to the generation that came before. Two other Circle albums followed. In 2006, Hanna’s composition “Bless The Broken Road” won a Grammy Award for Best Country Song. The NGDB celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2016 with a sold-out concert at the Ryman Auditorium and the live album “Circlin’ Back”. “Dirt Does Dylan” was released in 2022.

Ugly american Werewolf in London #100: Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets Live in Indianapolis Oct 29, 2022
    Show notes

Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets had to wait 2 years to tour due to COVID. But The Wolf & Action Jackson waited 27 years to see a live show together again; however, they all converged in Indianapolis on Friday, October 14. As proud members of Panteon Podcasts, we sponsored the The Echoes Tour and worked the show while greeting our VIP Experience winner, Heather.

Listen to The Wolf's journey from Europe to Indianapolis and how dangerously close he was to missing the show. Hear snippets of our interview with Guy Pratt & Gary Kemp of the Saucers (and the brilliant podcast The Rockonteurs) and the amazing night we had in Indy. Starting with One Of These Days through to the epic Echoes the guys shared stories, had some fun with the crowd, displayed extraordinary musicianship and still came back for an encore.

Examining–and reconsidering–The Rocky Horror Picture Show. At the time, it was transgressive, outrageous; but now it seems a little bit tame. And…a bit problematic, when taken in a modern context. But it's still the ultimate midnight movie, and it's still…just a jump to the left!

Shout It Out Loudcast: Album Review Crew Episode 35 "Moving Pictures" Oct 29, 2022
    Show notes

On the 35th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & Sonny review the eighth album by the legendary band, Rush, "Moving Pictures." This is the biggest selling album from Rush and has sold over 5 million copies in the United States alone.

Rush is known for its incredible musicianship with Geddy Lee on vocals and bass, Alex Lifeson on guitar and perhaps the greatest rock drummer of all time, Neil Peart. Moving Pictures continued Rush's progressive sound but in a more commercial and radio friendly manner with songs like "Tom Sawyer," "Red Barchetta," "Limelight" and more.

Moving Pictures has become a staple on classic rock stations and many of the songs were part of Rush's live shows. The album was produced by Rush and their long time collaborator, Terry Brown. The album cover has become iconic over the years as well.

As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous 33 albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew.

This was our 3rd Patreon pick. The members of Shout It Out Loudcast's Patreon group overwhelmingly selected Moving Pictures.

SIOL & ARC listeners know Tom loves Rush. They also know that Zeus & Sonny are NOT what you would call Rush fans. Did anyone's mind change? Tune in to find out what happens when the guys FINALLY review a Rush album!

Vintage Rock Pod: Michael Monroe (HANOI ROCKS!!) Interview Oct 28, 2022
    Show notes

In the latest of Vintage Rock Pod's BIG name interviews (which include 17 Rock & Roll Hall of Famers) Paul speaks with the fascinating former lead singer of Hanoi Rocks, MICHAEL MONROE!

"I Live Too Fast To Die Young" may be the name of his new album but it's also a line that could sum up Monroe! The charismatic lead singer is an icon in Finland, he and his band have been credited as being pioneers of the hair metal movement, have been lauded by legendary rock acts such as Guns n Roses and the Foo Fighters and in 1985 Sounds magazine even ranked them the second best band in the world! But despite the adulation, they never achieved the commercial success they deserved.

In this interview Michael discusses his time in Hanoi, the death of drummer Razzle which tore their bright future apart, and about how old wounds are heeling with his former bandmate. He also talks about the brilliant new documentary being made about his life, his new aforementioned solo album, this summer touring with Guns n Roses and Alice Cooper, his friendship with 'Little' Steven van Zandt and Stiv Bators, finally getting to remaster an old Hanoi album and the re-release of Demolition 23. It's an extensive interview with Michael both bright, engaging and incredibly open and honest about what he's been through.

Check out more of Vintage Rock Pod's brilliant interviews by following/subscribing to the Vintage Rock Pod feed on your favourite podcast app - a new interview is released every day and you can only get these on the VRP feed!
