What Difference Does It Make: Michaelangelo Matos Can't Slow Down Nov 05, 2021
    Show notes

Michaelangelo Matos realized at the age of 9 how magical the year 1984 was by simply listening to the radio and loving each and every song he heard. His latest book, Can't Slow Down: How 1984 Became Pop's Blockbuster Year, documents how this came to be by focusing on key moments. We talk about a few of our favorites from the Britain Rock America-Again Newsweek cover in January to the debut of Graffiti Rock in June to the MTV Awards and the recording of Band Aid, Of course there was also Prince, Madonna, Michael Jackson and Bruce Springsteen. 1984 truly was like no other.

Hear all your favorite songs from 1984 by getting Amazon for free courtesy of your friends at What Difference Does It Make.

Performance Anxiety: Mike Connell (The Connells) Nov 05, 2021
    Show notes

I don’t believe I’ve ever had a guest more self-deprecating than Mike Connell, particularly concerning the band he founded with his brother and some friends, The Connells. Through everything, the local gigs and homemade demos to radio hits and opening for Def Leppard, he has remained appreciative of the opportunities that have come his way, treating each album like it was the last one they’d be allowed to make. Mike talks about playing in a band that was really starting to get a following while attending law school and taking the bar exam, tour vans catching fire, and the bond that forms when you play with the same people for over 35 years. And in addition to having a track on one of the strangest albums of covers ever conceived, The Connells have a brand new album out called Steadman’s Wake. pick it up wherever you get new music. Follow The Connells for info about shows and more @therealconnells on IG & @connellsmusic on Twitter. Follow us @PerformanceAnx on both. Get merch at performanceanx.threadless.com or help support the show through ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety. If you miss this episode with Mike Connell, you must be insane in the membrane. Thanks for listening to Performance Anxiety on the Pantheon Podcast Network.

Ditty TV: Chris Gero Nov 04, 2021
    Show notes

Our guest today is acclaimed filmmaker, composer, producer, and all-around creative, Chris Gero. Chris is a mover and a shaker. He’s a 12-time Emmy-winner and a Grammy-nominated record producer. Today, we’ll get started by digging into his background, which points back to Paris, Ontario, Canada, and we’ll work our way up to the present, which is focused on his new music documentary, The Sound of Us. It’s an outstanding film and it features many notable names, including Avery Sunshine, Ben Folds, Bettye LaVette, Grace Kelly, Mercy Bell, Patti Smith, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Sarah McLachlan, and many others. The Sound of Us illustrates music's universal, unstoppable ability to unite and inspire, and we can’t recommend it enough. Let’s hear from the filmmaker himself, and thanks once again for tuning in to Insights.
