Performance Anxiety: Colin Peterik Jun 09, 2022
    Show notes

Today’s guest is Colin Peterik. If that name sounds familiar, you know your stuff. Colin is the son of Jim Peterik, who wrote some of the biggest hits of the 70’s & 80’s with Vehicle by Ides Of March Eye Of The Tiger by Survivor, & Hold On Loosely by .38 Special. Colin talks about growing up in the industry. He remembers being woken up at 6am by his dad working out some of these hits on the piano. Colin’s influences are wide-ranging. There’s the obvious link to his dad, but he was equally influenced by prog rock, Steely Dan, & skateboarding. He’s even the singer & keyboardist for a Steely Dan tribute band called Brooklyn Charmers.

His first solo album is coming out. It’s called Everything and Nothing and it is a fun listen. There is such a wide variety of styles. Colin discusses his studio process and if there might be a father/son duet in the future. Check Colin out on Instagram @colin_peterik_music & twitter @ColinPeterik. Pick up the album at colinpeterik.com or wherever you get music. Follow us @PerformanceAnx on socials. Rate & review us & all the other great podcasts on the Pantheon Podcast Network. The Ugly American Werewolf in London Rock Podcast: UAWIL #79 Geoff Downes Interview & YES Close to the Edge Review Jun 08, 2022
    Show notes

Geoff Downes was a key part of two monumental moments on MTV. As a member of The Buggles, he was in the first video ever played on MTV in August 1981 with Video Killed the Radio Star. In 1983, he and his fellow Asia bandmates were part of the first live satellite broadcast of a concert on cable TV.

As the current keyboardist in YES, he's about to embark on a tour to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Close to the Edge and they will play in it its entirety. Just before our interview, we learned of the tragic passing of long time YES drummer Alan White and we discuss Geoff's friendship with Alan, what Close to the Edge meant to him as a college student and why he's looking forward to the tour.

We also discuss the Asia in Asia box set being released June 10 which captures that amazing moment in time from December 1983 when Asia were bounced off of satellites around the globe to entertain the MTV generation. After our interview, The Wolf & Action Jackson will review Close to the Edge ahead of The Wolf seeing them play it live in Royal Albert Hall in London on June 21.

Yesterday's concert: Encore Ep. 7 The Truth About Concert Bootlegging Jun 08, 2022
    Show notes

Audience taping often receives a bad rap and many bands explicitly forbid it. In the old days, it was done by nefarious people who would sell the recordings in record stores and rip off the artists. Dan, who's known by his online persona of NYC Taper sets the record straight about audience taping. Taping isn't about selling artists' material, it's about spreading their fan base.

Listen to some of NYC Taper's great audience tapes: http://www.nyctaper.com
