    Pain Reframed

    Pain Reframed is a podcast for physical therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapy assistants and other health care providers about pain and how pain is managed in our society. Pain is a large issue right now and we will bring powerful and helpful insights on how we can manage pain in a much more efficient and effective way. Pain Reframed is committed to changing language and practice patterns across disciplines and points of care in order to reduce the unnecessary suffering that results from the propagation of misinformation, insufficient understanding of the pain experience, and the over-medicalization of pain in society. Dr. Tim Flynn and Dr. Jeff Moore will share their expertise, as well as the expertise from others in the medical and psychological fields, about pain management and our roles in dealing with pain. We want to create a sustainable, multi-disciplinary, international conversation on pain.

    We're welcoming Michelle Morrow to Pain Reframed! A self-described type-A, perfectionist personality, Michelle's mental health struggles during residency showed her the importance of self care. She, Tim, and Jeff share how each of them incorporate self care into their daily routines, despite their busy schedules. We hope you can use some of these techniques in your own life!

    Michelle Morrow, DPT, is a physical therapist who believes in providing patient-centered care at all times. Michelle takes into account the patient's goals, desires, culture, and strengths to put together a plan of individualized care that best suits the patient. She believes in making each patient the director of their care, while she helps facilitate the patient's goals. She is very passionate about her profession and using her talents to serve others.

    93: Opioid Addiction and Abuse Solutions | Dr. Ted Jones Feb 07, 2019

    Dr. Ted Jones joins us on Pain Reframed this week! Dr. Tim Flynn, Dr. Jeff Moore, and Dr. Ted Jones discuss how Ted is, as a pain addiction expert, able to help patients with challenging cases, particularly concerning opioid addiction and abuse. The conversation comes from the psychological perspective with the intent to help get patients back into health and a life worth living.

    Dr. Ted Jones is a licensed clinical psychologist with more than 30 years experience in the areas of general mental health, applied research, substance abuse and chronic pain. He has specialized in the field of chronic pain for more than 15 years. He has a full-time clinical private practice, while also conducting applied clinical research and offering educational services to health professionals. He is part of the psychology practice Behavioral Medicine Institute and works exclusively at Pain Consultants of East Tennessee. He founded Ted Jones Research in 2013 as a way to promote and expand his emerging applied clinical research projects. Dr. Jones is one of the country's leaders in conducting empirical research on opioid risk assessment.

    91: We Can Each Make Change | Liz Peppin Jan 10, 2019

    We welcome Liz Peppin back to Pain Reframed! Liz was on Pain Reframed on Episode 45 in February of 2018. She shared her story of dealing with pain, not finding the solutions she needed, but then being able to turn it around, reframing her pain and, now, reframing the pain of her patients. Liz is a long-time listener to Pain Reframed and also a Physician Assistant who has suffered from extreme pain for quite some time.

    Liz is one of the most involved people within the Pain Reframed community. She's heavily engaged with the Facebook Group and takes the information we share on Pain Reframed and puts it into action within her own practice. On this episode, Liz, Tim, and Jeff discuss what she's specifically doing with the information shared and she encourages each of us to make change and better our practices and our industry.

    90: The Power of Breathing with Dr. Eric Christensen Jan 03, 2019

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! We hope your 2019 is off to a great start!

    We welcome Dr. Eric Christensen to Pain Reframed! We're extremely excited to have Eric on the show. Not only is Eric a friend and colleague, but he's the owner of Chandler Physical Therapy in Chandler, AZ and author of the book "Breathe Better." Eric, Tim, and Jeff will be discussing Eric's book and how and why Eric wrote and uses the book for patient care.

    Eric graduated with his Doctorate of Physical Therapy program from Regis University in 2009, where he published a journal article on the effect of whiplash on the cross-sectional area of the muscles surrounding the throat as well as presenting at multiple conferences. He graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in Exercise Science and a focus in Sports Medicine. In practice, Eric enjoys working with all populations of patients in the orthopedic and neurological field. He has specialized in custom orthotic prescription and casting, vestibular reprogramming, and manual therapy. Eric takes a developmental approach to rehabilitation utilizing the Selective Functional Movement Assessment. He uses functional movement patterning and manual therapy to return patients to prior levels of function.
