After a brief Super Bowl Radio Row tangent, Ovies & Giglio lock in on college basketball as the “unofficial” start of the season arrives with Duke vs. UNC. The Blue Devils look like they’re in a tier of their own in the ACC, while the Tar Heels have completely flipped the conversation from two weeks ago — when the pressure was squarely on Hubert Davis. Is the pressure off? Will it ever be for Hubert? Maybe that’s not even the point anymore, as UNC has settled into clearer roles and better overall play. Meanwhile, NC State picked up another road win. Strip away the noise, and the Wolfpack is having a pretty solid season. But the rest of the schedule will ultimately decide whether Will Wade has truly figured out what this team is heading into March.

Then it’s over to the weather, where Greg Fishel joins the show to finally answer the eternal Triangle question: Does Raleigh have a “weather dome”? In the Lightning Round, the guys hit the NHL Stadium Series, the Carolina Hurricanes, some college hoops hot takes, and more.

The former MVP is doubling down on the idea that the former UNC quarterback is, at best, a game manager — and at worst another version of Trent Dilfer. That’s a tough pill to swallow for Maye, who grew up idolizing Cam, even breaking out the Superman TD celebration earlier this season when facing the Panthers. From there, it’s over to the Carolina Hurricanes, whose schedule lightens up heading into the Olympic break even as trade rumors begin to heat up. What should the Canes actually be looking to do as the postseason approaches?

After some winter weather banter to get things rolling, Ovies & Giglio welcome Louisville Courier-Journal’s C.L. Brown for a deep dive into ACC basketball. What was billed as a marquee regular-season showdown between Duke and Louisville quickly turned into a blowout, raising the big question facing the league right now: Is it Duke…and then everyone else in the ACC?

From there, the show shifts to football with Clayton High School head coach Scott Chadwick, who reflects on his time at Myers Park — right when Drake Maye was beginning to turn heads at quarterback. Chadwick shares insight into Maye’s early development, how he ultimately landed at North Carolina, and the unforgettable moment when Sam Darnold broke down Maye’s HUDL tape.

The latest Ovies & Giglio kicks off with Super Bowl storylines running straight through Charlotte, thanks to the matchup between New England and Seattle. The game heads back to San Francisco — the site of the Panthers’ last Super Bowl appearance — and there’s a full-circle moment tied to it. Drake Maye, a Charlotte kid who grew up rooting for Cam Newton, was there for that Panthers loss… and now he’s playing on the sport’s biggest stage himself. There’s also the remarkable reclamation of Sam Darnold, who has gone from being benched by the Carolina Panthers to finding his way back into relevance. And looming over it all? An increasingly awkward couple of weeks ahead for Bill Belichick.

Then it’s over to ACC hoops, where North Carolina stole the spotlight Saturday with a comeback win at Virginia. After the west coast flop had many writing off the Heels, a road win like that could be an inflection point for Hubert Davis and the season’s direction. NC State also notched another road victory—and while that’s worth noting, the internet seems far more focused on… logos. Why is everyone suddenly obsessed, and what does it even mean?
