OG Mailbag: Could SEC secede? | NC State vs UNC hoops neutral site game? | More on MLB expansion talk May 29, 2026

Show notes

The OG Mailbag is wide open to answer your biggest questions. What happens if the SEC officially leaves the NCAA, and why is the new ACC basketball schedule a complete mess?

Plus, the Stanley Cup playoff run has brought out some truly atrocious national commentary. The guys filter through the noise to highlight why the national media's Carolina Hurricanes takes are so consistently terrible, and what they continue to get wrong about this roster's identity. Then, we double down on the ongoing regional warfare. Following up on the Major League Baseball expansion discourse, the guys dive deeper into Raleigh vs. Charlotte, mapping out the corporate backing, local fan culture, and why the Triangle refuses to back down. We wrap things up by hitting your listener-submitted questions on life, sports, and everything in between.

Show notes

Joe Ovies and Joe Giglio are live from The Veil Brewing Co. in Richmond with a trunk full of OG Lime and OG Lite! Plus, Ovies goes off on Charlotte media's outdated MLB expansion takes.

OG SUMMER POP UP SHOP: http://ogtrianglemediashop.com/

The road trip is officially on! The guys packed up a trunk full of OG Lime and OG Lite, drove up the Interstate, and settled in for a live show at The Veil Brewing Co. in Richmond, Virginia to hang out with our VA listeners.

The guys open up the show by looking back at the Eastern Conference Finals and serving up a delicious dish of "Old Takes Exposed." With the Canes sitting on a 3-1 series lead, it's time to laugh at the national media narratives that wrote off Carolina's defense. Plus, the guys dive into Canadian hockey culture to explain why fans in Toronto and Montreal actually actively hurt their own franchises with overwhelming pressure.

Then, things get heated. Ovies unloads on Charlotte's WFNZ radio over their recent, deeply flawed discussion surrounding Major League Baseball expansion. The Charlotte media is relying on ancient, outdated economic data regarding the Triangle market, but the real issue is their completely antiquated thinking that professional sports teams are only allowed to exist in Charlotte. The guys break down why a Raleigh-Durham MLB bid is a massive threat to the Queen City.

Finally, we empty out the queue of leftover OG Sports Phone calls from the Game 4 overtime aftermath as Canes fans brace themselves for a massive, potential series-clinching Game 5 back at Lenovo Center.

The biggest shockwave in sports comes out of the desert, where Las Vegas pulled off a jaw-dropping sweep of the Colorado Avalanche. The meltdown officially brings back the ultimate hockey question: Is winning the President's Trophy a certified Stanley Cup curse?
To make matters funnier, the Avalanche and the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers have both claimed within the span of a single week that they didn't really get swept. The guys discuss this modern sports coping mechanism and look back at whether Canes coach Rod Brind'Amour was actually on to something with his infamous post-sweep comments a couple of years ago.

Elsewhere, Giglio has officially punched his ticket on the "can't stand Oklahoma City" bandwagon. He pulls no punches in explaining exactly why their aesthetic and style of play is the absolute worst version of basketball on television right now. Then, USA Today's Mitch Northam (and host of the Women's Basketball Pod) jumps on the show. Mitch breaks down the latest political and athletic hurdles surrounding the SCORE Act, and shares his heavy, unique perspective covering the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte following the sudden, tragic passing of NASCAR star Kyle Busch.

OG Business: Where are the arena watch parties for Canes? | College baseball is a big niche May 26, 2026

Show notes

TNT and ESPN love showing reaction shots from arena watch parties during the playoffs. So why haven't the Carolina Hurricanes hosted one at Lenovo Center when the team is on the road? Some of it is contractual (they do have an official partner with a local chain), and fans should expect an official arena watch event if the Canes make the Stanley Cup Final. However, a lot of the reasons for the lack of centralized watch parties has to do with the makeup of the Triangle. Ovies and Demetri discuss those dynamics before switching over to how the Canes impacted coverage of college baseball, FOX's World Cup strategy, "Enhanced Games" and more...

They did it again! The Carolina Hurricanes, who now hold a 2-1 Eastern Conference Finals lead over the Montreal Canadiens. This one was an absolute test of patience. The Hurricanes dominated possession and outshot Montreal by a massive, wide margin, but the Canadiens threw absolutely everything in the line of fire—blocking over 30 shots on the night. Combined with an incredible, high-wire goaltending performance from Jakub Dobeš, it felt like the puck would simply never cross the line.

Carolina Hurricanes Defense Sinks Game 1 vs Montreal | Eastern Conference Finals Misery Continues May 22, 2026

Show notes

OG After Dark is live from Lenovo Center following a tough opener to the Eastern Conference Finals. The Carolina Hurricanes dropped Game 1 to the Montreal Canadiens. The loss immediately reignited every cliched rest versus rust debate in the book and kicked off another round of postseason freakout with the Canes now sitting at 1-17 in this round dating back to 2009, 2019, 2023 and 2025. While Ovies and Giglio hit on those narratives, the real story of Game 1 was the defense. Freddie Andersen was let down by the guys in front of him, who were out of position and a step slow to start the game. Carolina got in a hole they couldn't fully climb out of. Mike Maniscalco joins the guys live from Lenovo Center to break it all down before the OG Sports Phone opens up for your calls.
