Over 50 & Flourishing with Dominique Sachse

Welcome to Over 50 & Flourishing, the show for any woman who feels like she lost her compass in the sea of midlife. I’m here to tell you it’s never too late to change your course and awaken the healthy, wise, and wonderful woman within. My name is Dominique Sachse, and I love to ask questions, which was why I spent nearly three decades of my life in the TV news business. I also started a YouTube channel in 2014 to connect intimately with my community, and I took an even deeper dive in my book Life Makeover – Embrace The Bold, Beautiful and Blessed You. I’ll be the first to say, I’ve made mistakes, and I’m not afraid to be vulnerable and learn from them. I mean let’s face it, this stage of life can be complicated. Children are moving out, relationships are being examined, our parents are aging, and we’re having to manage all of this along with our menopause! It’s easy to lose sight of ourselves, but can I just say.. we matter. So, whether it’s finding ways to enhance and celebrate our own beauty, taking bold steps toward living our best life in the second half of life, finding ways to be healthier, happier, and more spiritually connected, I will bring you thinkers and innovators who share the same passion of flushing out these ideas. It’s my goal to leave us all feeling inspired, thought and intent-driven, and with a sense of purpose in whatever we pursue. Let’s celebrate growing older together and embrace our Prime. It’s our time!

The Diet Culture We Grew Up In And How to Finally Let It Go Mar 16, 2026
    Show notes

In this episode of Over 50 and Flourishing, I sit down with Erin Washington for a conversation about diet culture, perfectionism, and identity.

Erin Washington is a former Division I soccer player whose identity was rooted in athletics from the age of four. After her college career ended abruptly, she spent twenty years battling body image struggles and hiding a painful secret before ultimately committing to healing and sharing her story in her book From Pain to Purpose.

We talk about the pressure to achieve, the connection between being the “good girl” or oldest daughter and perfectionism, and how so many high-performing women quietly tied their worth to their bodies. We also explore listening to your hunger cues after years of restriction, the role of stress and cortisol in midlife, modeling confidence for our daughters, navigating divorce after finding purpose later in life, and why growth can sometimes change a marriage.

If you or anyone you know is struggling with an eating disorder or disordered eating, you’re not alone. Visit findedhelp.com or call ANAD’s free helpline at 888-375-7767 for more information.

The 4 Attachment Styles And Why Your Relationships Keep Repeating Mar 09, 2026
    Show notes

In this episode of Over 50 and Flourishing, I sit down with attachment theory expert Thais Gibson for a powerful conversation about love, trauma, and the patterns that shape our relationships.

Thais Gibson, PhD, is a relationship expert and the creator of Integrated Attachment Theory, a framework designed to help people understand and heal attachment patterns at their root.

We break down the four attachment styles and how they influence everything from marriage to friendships to the way we see ourselves. We also talk about the connection between attachment and rising divorce rates, how modern parenting may be shifting attachment styles, and how conditioning is not just from childhood.

Thais explains how you can rewire 40, 50, even 60 years of trauma through simple daily practices that regulate your nervous system and heal core wounds.

Modeling in the ’90s, Harvard at 40, and Married to a Guns N’ Roses Rockstar Mar 02, 2026
    Show notes

In this episode of Over 50 & Flourishing, I sit down with Susan Holmes McKagan for a conversation about reinvention, courage, and playing the long game.

After a successful career as a 90s supermodel, Susan pivoted in her late 40s and enrolled in Harvard Graduate School to deepen and refine her craft as a writer. She shares what inspired that decision, what it felt like to be older than many of her classmates, and how the academic rigor sharpened her writing and strengthened her discipline.

We also talk about her nearly 27-year marriage to Duff McKagan of Guns N Roses. How they met on a blind date, what keeps their relationship strong, and what it was really like raising two daughters while navigating life on tour. Susan offers an honest look at the pros and challenges of being married in the rock and roll world and why longevity in love, just like career, requires intention and growth.

    In this episode, we discuss:

    • Why Susan chose to go to Harvard Graduate School in her 40s after a successful modeling career
    • What it felt like to be the outlier in the classroom
    • How her writing sharpened and evolved after graduate school
    • How she met Duff McKagan and built a lasting marriage in rock and roll
    • What tour life was like while raising a family
    • The importance of taking leaps of faith at any age
    • Why following your passion matters more than playing it safe
    • How benefiting from the long game leads to lasting success

She Got Fired at 61 Then Started an Unfiltered Social Media Career Feb 23, 2026
    Show notes

What happens when you stop caring what people think after 60?

In this candid, funny, and unexpectedly heartfelt conversation, I sit down with Lisa Arce (@kitchenkillalisa), the bold and unfiltered voice behind the viral videos that say what so many women are thinking but won’t say out loud.

After being fired at 61, Lisa did not retreat. She reinvented. What began as off-the-cuff social media posts turned into a thriving online presence, brand opportunities, and a loyal audience drawn to her sharp humor, honest storytelling, and unapologetic perspective on real life and modern culture.

In this episode, you will also meet the woman behind the persona, shaped by resilience, complicated family dynamics, loss, love, and a refusal to shrink with age.

    In this episode, we discuss:

    • What it felt like to be fired at 61 and why it turned out to be a gift
    • Reinventing yourself later in life and building something new online
    • Making money on social media in your 60s
    • Aging without apology, including Botox, gray hair, and the judgment women place on each other
    • Why women over 50 are still competing instead of supporting one another
    • Divorce, loss, and reconnecting with a past love decades later
    • Learning to stop caring what people think
    • Finding freedom and confidence in your 60s

What Heartbreak Taught Us About Love Feb 09, 2026
    Show notes

In this special Valentine’s Day episode, I sit down with my husband, Vic. Together, we reflect on the beauty of second chances, the hard seasons that shaped us, and why Valentine’s Day can be both a joyful celebration and a difficult reminder for so many.

With humor, tenderness, faith, and real-life perspective, Vic and I share the lessons we’ve learned through heartbreak, healing, and God’s perfect timing.

    In this episode, we cover:

    • Why Valentine’s Day can feel painful or complicated for many
    • How to reframe the holiday around giving, gratitude, and love beyond romance
    • The power of second chances and God’s timing in relationships
    • Why the only thing worse than being alone is being with the wrong person
    • The importance of honesty, growth, and letting go of perfection
    • What we’ve learned from past mistakes, loss, and uncomfortable “yeses”
    • How faith became the foundation of our marriage
    • Why every day can be an opportunity to love someone well

Why Unspoken Expectations Kill Intimacy Feb 02, 2026
    Show notes

In this episode of Over 50 & Flourishing, I’m joined by dating and relationship coach Laurie Gerber, host of the Love at Any Age podcast and a longtime friend of the show, for a timely conversation about love, connection, and reclaiming Valentine’s Day at any stage of life.

Together, we unpack why Valentine’s Day can bring so much pressure and disappointment, how unspoken expectations quietly erode intimacy, and what it really takes to feel seen, heard, and cherished in relationships.

    In this episode, we discuss:

    • Why Valentine’s Day triggers pressure, comparison, and resentment, and how to reclaim it
    • How unspoken expectations sabotage intimacy in long-term relationships
    • The power of listening (and why feeling heard changes everything)
    • Why love doesn’t “just happen” and how to design it intentionally
    • How to communicate desires without guilt, testing, or mind-reading
    • Practical ways to create connection (whether you’re single or partnered)
    • The types of dates that can reignite passion, play, and closeness at any age

In this episode of Over 50 & Flourishing, I’m joined by Antigone Davis, Meta’s Vice President and Global Head of Safety, for an important and reassuring conversation about teen safety, social media, and what parents and grandparents need to know in today’s digital world.

Antigone has spent her career focused on protecting children and young people. With a background in education and law, she now leads global safety efforts at Meta, working with experts, NGOs, and policymakers to create safer online experiences for teens and families.

Together, we talk honestly about the challenges parents face raising teens in a world of social media, smartphones, and AI. Antigone breaks down Meta’s teen safety tools, including built-in guardrails, parental supervision, time limits, and age-appropriate content, and explains how they are designed to support both connection and wellbeing. We also explore why teens may actually welcome boundaries more than we expect and how parents can start these conversations with confidence.

    In this episode, we discuss:

    • How teen accounts work on Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger
    • What the new 13+ content experience means for parents
    • How parental supervision tools help without invading privacy
    • Managing screen time, sleep, and late-night scrolling
    • Social media’s impact on teen mental health
    • What parents should know about AI and online safety
    • How to create healthy digital boundaries through communication, not control

Dr. Will Cole: Inflammation - The Health Issue Behind the Health Issues Jan 26, 2026
    Show notes

In this episode of Over 50 & Flourishing, I’m joined by Dr. Will Cole, New York Times bestselling author, leading functional medicine expert, and host of The Art of Being Well podcast, for a powerful conversation about what’s really driving many of the health challenges we face in midlife.

Dr. Cole is one of the nation’s top functional and integrative doctors and the founder of the world’s first functional medicine telehealth centers. He works with patients around the globe, specializing in uncovering the root causes of chronic issues like inflammation, thyroid dysfunction, autoimmune conditions, hormonal imbalances, digestive disorders, and brain health concerns.

Together, we explore why inflammation lies at the heart of so many chronic conditions, how stress and unresolved trauma impact the body, and the practical lifestyle changes that support lasting health and vitality.

    In this episode, we discuss:

    • What inflammation really is and why it’s behind so many health issues
    • The gut–brain connection and its role in hormones and immunity
    • Why functional medicine focuses on root causes, not symptoms
    • The foods and lifestyle habits that fuel (or fight) inflammation
    • How chronic stress and trauma show up in the body
    • Why midlife is a powerful time to reclaim your health
    • How to make sustainable changes without extremes
