1-4-24 Hour 3: Jason's Apology, Bacon Crackers, MLB Legend Larry Bowa Jan 04, 2024
    Show notes

Bo and the crew talk about Jason's lousy attendance at Vaught Hemmingway and hear his apology live on air, they enjoy bacon wrapped crackers in the Bacon, Food, and Fun segment, and are joined by senior advisor to the general manager of the Phillies, former World Series coach, World Series player and all-around MLB legend Larry Bowa on the Farm Bureau guest line live in the BankPlus Studio. Producer Jason graduated from Ole Miss last May and failed to make the 2-hour drive to Oxford all season as his Rebels went 11-2, and today he issued his public and heartfelt apology for this terrible mistake. It was not enough for Bo who thinks that as punishment Jason should attend have to sweltering hot Furman game in general admission. On today's Bacon, Food and Fun segment the guys enjoy Boar's Head bacon wrapped crackers and Tito's Vodka bloody marys - they were incredible. MLB legend and five-time Allstar Larry Bowa who won a world series both as a player and then as a coach joins the show on the Farm Bureau guest line. Bo asks Larry about his start in baseball, and the Philadelphia Phillies Wall of Famer says he was cut three times from his high school team because of his size. He got signed to JUCO through summer ball and from there worked his way to the minors then the majors. Never thought about quitting because of his dad who was a minor league player with over 2,000 hits and never got drafted. Bo asked him when he realized he could have a career, and Larry said it was in the minor leagues. He was told he could be a major league utility player, but if he could learn to switch hit, he would be an everyday player in AAA, so that is what he did and hit around .270-.280. Bo asks Larry when he was with the Phillies when did they realize they were going to be good. Larry says that in the mid 70s they started to play really good but were still missing something. The missing piece was Pete Rose. At that point Dallas Green took over and that is what led them to where they were in the 1980s. After a tough series with Houston, Bowa felt there was really no pressure on them going in the World Series at that point. Bo asks if he still talks to Pete Rose. Larry says he sees him a good bit and that he believes Rose is at peace with not being inducted into the Hall of Fame. Bo wants to know what Mike Schmidt was like as a player and a personality. Larry says he was a natural athlete and could make it look easy with any type of ball in his hand.

Steve also thinks that even though the Packers defense has been lacking, they are still a threat and can still score on you, but they are likely a year away.
