    52: Witness: Lauren Dec 29, 2020
    Show notes WARNING:

This episode contains allusions to sexual assault, and descriptions of the phenomenon that may be difficult for some to hear. Listener discretion is advised.
Welcome to witness, our brand new series where we open up the podcast to witnesses of the phenomenon and allow them to tell their stories.
I've you've seen the hit series, Hellier, then you know the level of weirdness that Kentucky brings to the table. We've covered a few of the stranger incidents on previous episodes, including the death of Thomas F. Mantell, while in pursuit of a UFO near Fort Knox in 1948. We've covered the strange abductions of the Stanford Three and Lee Parish in 1976 and 1977.
You can find the most haunted building in America, Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Louisville. Recently, news reports of hunters shooting at Bigfoot like creatures near caves have surfaced. While you can find familiar phenomenon in Kentucky, there is a level of unique strangeness the state brings to the table. The stories you're about to hear fall under that category.
On the first episode in our series, we invite Lauren on to talk about her life long experiences with the phenomena, which includes UFO sightings, strange dreams, and encounters with otherworldly beings.

45: Welcome to the Adirondacks: Ladies of the Lakes, Spirits of the Mountains Dec 29, 2020
    Show notes

The town of Saranac Lake became a haven for those seeking relief for the disease known as consumption. Known today as Tuberculosis, Dr. Edward Livingston Trudeau was one of the earliest to seek a cure for the disease, and in the pine scented air of the Adirondacks found relief. He soon founded a sanitarium and pioneered an early industry in Saranac Lake. Numerous “cure cottages” popped up in its wake, and many of them can be seen in the ordinary neighborhoods of the town.
While many sought relief, a great many more died. When I was a child, my mother told me that the house across the street was haunted. I grew up with the ghosts of my hometown, and they were everywhere. And I, armed with my plastic Ghostbusters proton pack, was ready to bust every single one of them.
On this episode of the Our Strange Skies podcast, I present you with some of the stories that I grew up with. Some of our spirits dwell in the lakes, and some in the mountains. In many ways they are tied to the landscape more than they are any home. Perhaps that’s what makes the Adirondacks unique. Please enjoy some of our favorite spirits.

43: Unsolved Mysteries Murder Roundtable: I'd Like to Speak to the Manager of the Swamp Dec 29, 2020
    Show notes

On this edition of the Unsolved Mysteries round-table, I'm joined by Samantha and Liz from Perhaps It's You podcast to discuss a trio of murders. That's right, for the first time on the Our Strange Skies podcast, we're talking about murder. Liz talks about the murder of Audrey Moate, who disappeared in the Bayou of Louisiana. Did she run afoul of the manager of the swamp? Samantha discusses the murder of Kathy Hobbs, who was abducted while returning from a local grocery store to purchase a paperback book. Is this a crime against avid readers? And finally, Rob tells the story of Angela Hammond, who was abducted and disappeared in a rather dramatic, and cinematic fashion, prompting us to ask, is there a hall of fame for guys named Rob?
We explore other off topic mysteries, like, whether Mothman is a man-sized moth or half moth/half man, Mothman's booty situation. Is getting abducted by aliens perfect branding for this podcast? Are treasure segments targeted toward old people that don't have 401Ks? At the end of this, do we deserve a mystery where Robert Stack finds 30 puppies in a box? Is anyone going to solve any of these goddamned mysteries?!

For the final Unsolved Mysteries roundtable, I’m joined by Scott Philbrook and Forrest Burgess of the Astonishing Legendspodcast to relive some of our favorite moments from the show. We discuss how UM influenced their own show, and how much Scott really loves “Lost Loves” segments. Like, a lot, you guys. We discuss some of the why Dennis Farina failed to capture an audience, and pay a little tribute to In Search Of… We also make our choices for who should host the reboot. All this and more on the final Unsolved Mysteries roundtable!
