    “Armed with Righteousness and the Power of God”

    January 22 – January 28

    Lesson Summary:

    This week we’ll approach Lehi’s vision from a new vantage point as we study the visionary experience of Nephi. We’ll learn about the love of God and the many, many tools He has put in place to bring us all to the tree. Nephi’s vision will help us see the Lord’s plan to care for Lehi’s descendants - those who choose to follow Him and those who turn away. We’ll also study Nephi’s response to this vision and his powerful example of service through struggle.

    Questions to Consider:

    • 1 Nephi 11:25 | Why do you think there are two representations of his love (tree & river)?
    • 1 Nephi 11:35 | Do you see the Great & Spacious building of our day straining to accept all the philosophies of men?
    • 1 Nephi 12:4-11 | Why is showing His wounds the first thing the Savior does when He visits the Nephites?
    • 1 Nephi 13:10-20 | Why does God still bless Columbus, the Founding Fathers, the Colonists etc, with power if they are imperfect?

    January 15 – January 21, 2024

    WEEK 03: SUMMARY

    =================

    This week we’ll follow Lehi’s sons back into Jerusalem and then back into the wilderness with Ishmael’s Family. Nephi will struggle to lead his rebellious brothers and experience personal deliverance through heartfelt prayer. The bulk of our study will be focused on Lehi’s sweeping vision of the tree of life. The symbols woven into the vision will help us understand how to navigate our complex mortal experience with hope, understanding, and grace.

    We’ll reinforce those teachings in the creative object lessons as well. First, we’ll break down the structure of the iron rod with a simple aluminum foil braid. Next, we’ll talk about what it means to “keep” something for God by playing an epic game of potato jousting. Finally, we’ll talk about the beauty of unfolding revelation by creating a handful of fire.

Nephi begins by describing himself as “exceedingly young” and ends by describing himself as a “man of large stature”. In the middle, his faith, patience, and testimony are put to the test. He’ll teach us about following a prophet even when we don’t have a full understanding as well as the power that comes from seeking to know for ourselves. His experience with his brothers getting the plates helps us understand the goodness of God and His ability to make all things work together for our good.

    On the creative side, we’ll use rubber bands and treat-filled targets to help us understand the structure of the Book of Mormon. Next, we’ll chat Nephi’s attempt to pump up his brothers and perform a Karaoke anthem challenge. Finally, we’ll talk about having light in our wilderness moments with a simple flashlight object lesson.

    WEEK 01: SUMMARY

    This week we kick off a whole new year as we study the Introductory Pages of the Book of Mormon. We’ll study the Title Page, Introduction, and testimonies of the witnesses of the plates. I’ll chat about 7 of the insights that sparked ideas in my mind and then ask you 5 questions to get a good conversation going.

    We’ll talk about the value of creating, keeping, and learning from records with a simple questionnaire and mini-recording session. Next, we’ll put Joseph Smith’s keystone object lesson to the test by creating a candy-filled paper arch. Finally, we’ll talk about the importance of witnesses and help our kids understand how to be witnesses at living and proxy baptisms.

    December 25 – December 31

    WEEK 52: SUMMARY

    In our final week of study we’ll cover Revelation 15-22. John will teach us about the conflicting forces of good and evil in the last days. We’ll focus in on the allure of Babylon and study its sudden fall. We’ll end with John’s description of the glistening Celestial City and his timeless invitation to “Come”.

    On the creative side, we’ll put our year of study to the test with an epic full-year Kahoot challenge. Next, we’ll learn about Satan being bound with a fire snuffing experiment. Finally, we’ll help our kids visualize the Celestial Kingdom by creating our own fantastic version with tech and paper.

    “Good Tidings of Great Joy”

    December 18 – December 24

    WEEK 51: SUMMARY

    This week we'll try to study the nativity story with fresh eyes. Each person gives us a different understanding about the journey's we will take, the sacrifices we'll be invited to make, the guides we'll be given, and the changes we can make because He lives.

    On the creative side, we'll use a bottle trick to teach about the power of small, humble changes. Next, we'll create our own nativity scene from old boxes to help us tell the Christmas story in a new way. Finally, we'll focus on spreading the word abroad by inviting our neighbors to Church in a normal, natural way.
