Dear Shelly, Aug 21, 2024

Show notes

Think about marriage for a moment. Who is a could that you know that has been married the longest. Three days ago my wife Elizabeth and I just celebrated our 23rd wedding anniversary. My guest today is Kyle Jetsel. Kyle shares losing his wife of 30 years felt like the world stopped spinning for Kyle—a void that seemed impossible to fill. The silence in the house was deafening, the weight of her absence almost unbearable. Yet, in the depths of that pain, Kyle knew he had to find a way forward—not just for himself, but for their children and the legacy they had built together. He chose to find strength in the love they shared, letting that love fuel his days instead of his grief. Kyle began to focus on living a life that honored her memory, finding reasons to smile again, to breathe deeply, and to inspire others to cherish every moment with their loved ones. Through this journey, he realized that the best way to honor her was to live fully, love well, and leave a legacy that their children could carry forward—a legacy of resilience, kindness, and an unshakable belief in the power of love. Join me as I walk in Kyle's pearl white Lebron James signature shoes.

Dear Mom, Aug 14, 2024

Show notes

What is something that you absolutely, can't stand? I tried once making a list. If you were to make a list where would grief fall in the rankings? My guest today is Chelsea Ohlemiller. She wrote this brand new book called "Now That She's Gone". Chelsea is here to share her story about grief. Grief is profoundly challenging to cope with because it encompasses a wide range of intense emotions, from deep sorrow and anger to confusion and guilt. This emotional turbulence often arises from the loss of a loved one, a significant life change, or an unfulfilled dream, leading to a sense of emptiness and helplessness. The process of grieving disrupts our daily lives, impacting our mental and physical health. To navigate through grief, it is essential to allow oneself to feel and express these emotions rather than suppressing them. Seeking support from friends, family, or professional counselors can provide comfort and understanding. Additionally, engaging in self-care practices, such as maintaining a routine, exercising, and finding creative outlets, can help in gradually rebuilding one's life and finding a new sense of normalcy. Recognizing that grief is a personal journey and giving oneself the grace and time to heal is crucial. Join me as we walk in Chelsea's shoes.

Dear Memories, Aug 07, 2024

Show notes

Where were you on July 20, 1984? That was the day The movie "The NeverEnding Story" was released in the United States. My guest today is Nancy Bruscher. Nancy believes wholeheartedly in the fact that there is power in your story. The power of remembering and sharing your story lies in the profound connection it fosters between individuals and generations. Each person's life is a tapestry woven with experiences, lessons, and values that are uniquely theirs. These stories are not only a testament to their journey but also a beacon of wisdom and resilience for others. When we share our stories, we affirm our value and humanity, offering insights that can inspire, guide, and comfort us. Future generations, in particular, need to remember our family stories, for they are the custodians of our legacy. By preserving these narratives, they gain a deeper understanding of their roots, a sense of belonging, and the strength to navigate their own paths. In this way, our stories transcend time, becoming a vital thread in the fabric of our collective human experience. Join me as we walk in Nancy's sandals.

Dear Umbrella, Jul 31, 2024

Show notes

Do you love the story of Winnie the Pooh? My favorite part is the image of Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin walking with an umbrella is a powerful depiction of companionship and support. My guest today is Noah Asher. Noah talks about how as they stroll together, the umbrella shields them from the unpredictable elements, symbolizing the protective presence of friendship. Just as the umbrella guards them against the rain, having someone by our side can help us navigate the chaos of life. With its inherent ups and downs, this shared journey becomes more manageable when we have a trusted companion to lean on. The umbrella, much like a steadfast friend, provides comfort and reassurance, reminding us that we are never truly alone in facing life's storms. Join me as we walk in Noah's shoes.

Dear Miscarriage, Jul 24, 2024

Show notes

When was the last time you heard the phrase "I know how you feel" My guest today is Cate Purvis. Cate is here to share how she found the strength to get through her miscarriages. Miscarriage is a profoundly difficult experience for women to navigate alone due to the intense emotional, physical, and psychological toll it takes. The grief and sense of loss can be overwhelming, compounded by feelings of guilt, shame, or inadequacy, even though these feelings are unfounded. Physically, the body undergoes significant changes, and the recovery process can be painful and exhausting. The emotional turmoil can lead to depression, anxiety, and isolation, especially if societal stigmas or lack of understanding prevent open conversations about the loss. The support of loved ones, friends, and professionals is crucial in providing the emotional comfort, validation, and care needed to help women heal and process their grief. Join me as I walk in Cate's shoes.

Dear Law Enforcement, Jul 17, 2024

Show notes

Take a moment and think about your worst day. Perhaps it was the day you dumped coffee all over yourself right before you walked into work? Maybe it was the day your baby pooped all over your brand-new pants? Or maybe it was a very sad day when a loved one died? All these examples seem dire and even awful. Did your worst day involve your job? I believe one of the hardest jobs is law enforcement. My guest today is Jared Altic. Jared has dedicated his life's work to helping law enforcement. Being in law enforcement is fraught with dangers, making it one of the most dangerous professions. Officers regularly face life-threatening situations, from confronting armed suspects to navigating high-speed pursuits. The risk of physical harm is ever-present, whether during routine traffic stops, domestic disputes, or responding to active crime scenes. Additionally, law enforcement personnel are often targets of violence and may suffer from psychological stress due to the high-stakes nature of their work. The constant exposure to danger and traumatic events can lead to long-term mental health issues, such as PTSD. Despite rigorous training and protective measures, the unpredictable nature of their duties means that law enforcement officers must always remain vigilant, underscoring the significant risks they endure to ensure public safety. Join me as I walk in Jared's shoes.

Dear Ladies Jul 10, 2024

Show notes

When is it okay to be angry at God? Is there ever a time you have found yourself in that spot? My guest today is Julie Sunne. You would like by Julie's name that never rains or Julie has never had a bad day. We all know that is completely preposterous. Recovering from five miscarriages and four live births involves a multifaceted approach addressing both emotional and physical well-being. Emotionally, it is essential to seek support from loved ones, therapists, or support groups to navigate the grief and complex emotions associated with loss. Engaging in activities that promote mental health, such as journaling, meditation, or creative pursuits, can also be beneficial. Physically, it is important to work with healthcare providers to ensure proper recovery and address any underlying medical conditions that may contribute to pregnancy loss. Regular check-ups, a balanced diet, exercise, and possibly fertility treatments or interventions might be part of the physical recovery process. Emphasizing self-care, setting realistic expectations, and allowing time for healing are crucial for regaining balance and moving forward. Join me as we delicately walk in Julie's shoes.

Dear Dad, Jul 03, 2024

Show notes

Who is the hardest person to believe and trust? My guest today is Tim Stearns. I am guessing his name isn't jumping out to you? Oh wait, wasn't he in that movie "My Blue Heaven" that great 1990 film? Fun fact he was. Sort of...Tim is here to read his letter to Bob his Step-Father that became so much more. Having an earthly father provides invaluable guidance, support, and love, serving as a foundational pillar in one's life. A father shapes a child's understanding of strength, compassion, and responsibility, helping to navigate the complexities of the world. Equally vital, however, is the relationship with our Heavenly Father. Knowing God and putting faith and trust in Jesus Christ is paramount, as He offers the ultimate salvation from sin. Jesus’ sacrifice and teachings provide a path to eternal life, peace, and a profound sense of purpose. Embracing this divine relationship enriches our lives, offering hope and an unshakeable foundation that transcends earthly challenges. Join me as I walk in Tim's shoes.

Dear Teenagers, Jun 26, 2024

Show notes

How do you create a safe space for young people in your life? My guest today is Keri Cooper, LCSW NBCCH. Keri specializes in Holistic Therapy for Teens and Adolescents. Most of us know this right? Teenagers today often struggle to find a safe space to express their thoughts and feelings, a challenge exacerbated by societal pressures, social media scrutiny, and academic stress. Without a supportive environment where they can openly share their emotions without fear of judgment or ridicule, many teens internalize their struggles, leading to increased anxiety, depression, and a sense of isolation. Are you creating a safe space for teenagers? Having a safe space is incredibly valuable as it allows teenagers to explore and understand their emotions, develop healthy coping mechanisms, and build resilience. This nurturing environment fosters open communication, encourages self-expression, and promotes mental well-being, ultimately helping teens navigate the complexities of adolescence with confidence and support. Join me as I walk in Keri's shoes.
