Chase Kloetzke is the Director of Investigations for the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), the largest civilian UFO investigation organization. Chase is in charge of trained field investigators throughout the United States and a several other countries. As of June 30, 2018, MUFON has already received over 3600 reports. Chase was a Master Trainer/Master Instructor with the Department of Defense, has a Bio-mechanical Engineering accreditation, has received certification as a Private investigator, certified in international forensic and evidence collection and holds a Certified Professional Evidence Specialist (CPES) certification with the International Association for Property and Evidence, Inc. She uses her skills to ensure MUFON investigations adhere to professional law enforcement and scientific standards. George Knapp is an award-winning investigative journalist and is currently Las Vegas Now's I-Team Chief Reporter. His reporting has made the mysterious Area 51 famous and has uncovered the most extensive scientific study of a paranormal hotspot. He also is an occasional host of Coast to Coast AM. As a UFO show, those are the accolades that likely interest the OpenMinds.tv audience most. However, beyond the paranormal Knapp’s reporting has resulted in two dozen regional Emmys, five regional and two national Edward R. Murrow awards, nine Associated Press Mark Twain Awards for best news writing and a couple of Peabody Awards, among others. In 1990, he won a United Press International award for his UFO reporting. Little did they know just how influential this work would become. 1989 was the year George began reporting on the alleged back-engineering of alien spacecraft at Area 51 by Bob Lazar. This series made the Area 51 base famous worldwide while remaining the most secretive at the same time. In this interview, we discuss more recent revelations by George and the Las Vegas Now I-Team. In 2005, George co-authored the book Hunt for the Skinwalker: Science Confronts the Unexplained at a Remote Ranch in Utah. His co-author was Colm Kelleher, the lead scientists in the investigation discussed in the book. Before writing the book, George had hoped to create a documentary, but those plans were halted, until now. A new documentary co-produced with Jeremy Corbell includes footage George held on to for years. In addition to the original footage, George’s reporting has revealed the Pentagon partially funded this scientific investigation. From 1992 to 2002 Christopher O’Brien investigated over one thousand paranormal events reported in the San Luis Valley—located in south-central Colorado/north-central New Mexico. Working with law enforcement officials, ex-military, ranchers and an extensive network of skywatchers, he documented what may have been the most intense wave of unexplained activity ever seen in a single region of North America. His ten-year investigation resulted in the three books of his “mysterious valley” trilogy: The Mysterious Valley, Enter the Valley, and Secrets of the Mysterious Valley. His latest book: Stalking the Herd, is being called the most important book ever written examining our relationship with cattle and how this has manifested into the modern “cattle mutilation” mystery. Chris is currently working on launching the UFO Data Acquisition Project (UFODAP). This project uses self contained units that include cameras and other sensors to capture data on UFO events. He has already built working units ready to be deployed and is working on partnerships to build and deploy more units. Of the many similar projects underway, Chris’ is the first to begin deployment. Mark O’Connell is the author of The Close Encounters Man: How One Man Made the World Believe in UFOs, a biography of astronomer Dr. J. Allen Hynek. Hynek was a consultant to the U.S. Air Force’s official UFO investigations in the late 40s to the late 60s. A skeptic at first, Hynek went on to become a proponent of serious research into the UFO phenomenon. Mark is also a screenwriter, teacher, and blogger. He wrote episodes for Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and has developed feature film projects with major studios, including Walt Disney and DreamWorks Animation. He is also the founder of the UFO blog High Strangeness. He lives in Wisconsin with his wife, Monica, and teaches screenwriting at DePaul University in Chicago. Lee Speigel is a journalist who has also spent decades researching and writing about UFOs. In the 70s, he organized a presentation of credible UFO information to the United Nations as part of Granada’s attempt to have the U.N participate in UFO investigations. Currently, he is working with James Fox on Fax’ latest UFO documentary. Fox is often credited with producing the best UFO documentaries, especially from a credibility standpoint. In this episode, we talk to Lee about the exciting project he is currently working on. We also discuss a new television series called Project Blue Book on the History Channel. This year’s annual Roswell UFO festival was another success. The festival began with the 50th anniversary and continues to this day. The UFO Museum has broken attendance records for the last few years, so festival attendance is going strong. However, there was a unique aspect to this year’s festival that will make future events feel a bit like they are missing something. What they will be missing is Stanton Friedman, the man who put Roswell on the map, and made the alleged crash of a UFO in 1947 the most well-known UFO story in the world. Stanton Friedman is retiring this year, and although he will be attending a few more events, this will be his last yearly trek to the UFO festival. In this episode of Open Minds UFO Radio, we talk to several of the attendees and speakers at this years event, and we end the episode with a talk with Stanton about his retirement. James Abbott is the author of the Outsider's Guide to UFOs. Following a short scholarship to Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, James completed a Bachelor’s degree in Politics and Economics at the University of York and later researched a Master’s thesis at the University of Cambridge on global trade in the aerospace industry. His career has encompassed time in the aerospace sector, in marketing, in education, and in commercial research. He’s written and contributed to around a dozen academic books, and countless lengthy reports. His greatest professional love is research; having the view that there aren’t that many jobs in which you get paid for having fun, but that’s what research is like. So why UFOs of all things? The answer is a long one, but it boils down to this: Like almost everyone else, James gets hooked by a good mystery, and UFOs are perhaps the greatest mystery of all; one which is in desperate need of being properly investigated. He lives with his wife in Yorkshire, England, where rabbits are the only alien menace. Or so he believes!
