Trust or Consequences Apr 22, 2024

Show notes

When we find ourselves stuck with consequences we can’t change, are we going to be angry and bitter about it? Are we going to seek God in the midst of it?
In this episode, we are breaking down camp and setting out with the people of Israel toward the promised land. But when the people discover that the promised land is not only flowing with milk and honey but also filled with giants, they panic.
Joshua and Caleb beg the people to trust and obey God to fulfill His promises and take care of them. But the people show they did not learn the lessons of boot camp, and they end up spending an extra 38 years in the wilderness.
What God ultimately wants is not for us to follow a life of principles but a life of relationship. In this relationship, God says, ‘I will be there; you can trust Me; and I will get you through this.’ If there is a “formula” or a principle, it is to go find God, see what He wants to do, and do that.
As we head into this next phase of the journey, we begin to unpack the model for what walking victoriously in the Spirit looks like.

He Covers Us Apr 15, 2024

Show notes

We don’t have to earn God’s presence. In Christ, it is a gift!
When we’re on a healing journey, it is easy to feel dirty and unclean. But Christ has done the work to make us clean so that the Holy Spirit can live within us, so we can have relationship with God.
Atonement is core to God’s solution to fixing the sin problem. It addresses the sin problem not by ending immorality but by giving us the ability to be in the presence of God.
We see atonement enacted in both the Old and New Testaments, and while there is a lot of overlap, they are not the same level of atonement.
In this episode, we are looking at the Day of Atonement, exploring some of the similarities and differences between the Old and New covenants, from the level of sin covered to spiritual warfare and more.

Holy God, Holy People Apr 08, 2024

Show notes

What does it mean to be holy?
The healing journey we’ve been on with the people of Israel has been a process of dismantling their old identity and creating a new one.
This involves creating a new culture. With a new culture comes a new Law — rituals, protocols, and principles for interacting with the unseen realm, living together, caring for one another, and worshiping God.
In this episode, we’re entering the levitical side of boot camp.
And we’re covering a lot!

What is holiness?
What’s with the divine smite button?
What does Aaron’s ordination teach us about our identity in Christ?
When it comes to holiness, what is the connection between behavior and identity?
What does this mean for the healing journey?

We invite you to join us on the trail!

The Golden Calf Apr 01, 2024

Show notes

We have been on a victory journey with the people of Israel, one where they learn to die to their old identity, rise to their new identity, walk with God, and live in community. They’re about to leave their boot camp in the wilderness and head toward the promised land.

Alas, something tragic happens before they break camp. It’s not fun to look at the hard things, but in today’s episode, we’re looking at the incident of the Golden Calf.

The Golden Calf was a direct contradiction to everything God had been teaching them thus far—the freedom, the covenant, the Tabernacle, etc. There are natural and necessary consequences that follow this incident. It gets a little scary, a little intense.

But in the end we see that God’s purposes stand. He’s going to get the people as a whole to the promised land. He is a God of justice and compassion, and He invites relationship and intercession.

We invite you to us on the trail!

He Tents With Us Mar 25, 2024

Show notes

We don’t have to be whole & healed to have intimacy with God.
Last week, we looked at the Mountain of God as a model of covenant relationship. This week, we get to watch God provide the next, incredible step toward a lifestyle of intimacy with Him.

God is not waiting at the top of the mountain for us to get our act together and come up to Him. He is coming straight into the center of our mess to journey with us.

In many ways, all of the amazing things God has done during the Exodus event has been to bring His people to this moment: the Tabernacle. It’s a place of intimacy at the center of His people that is mobile and ready for the journey.

God’s incarnational purposes are made known from Genesis to Revelation, and this Tabernacle Theology is a beautiful picture of His desire to be in an active, tangible, walking relationship with His people.

He is right there in the center of our brokenness, giving provision for being in His presence despite the juxtaposition of His purity and our uncleanness.

Join us on the trail as we continue deeper into an understanding of walking with God!

The Mountain of God Mar 18, 2024

Show notes

We’ve made it to camp!
During God’s two-year boot camp for the people of Israel, about a year was spent in one location: the Mountain of God.

Why the Mountain?

It is a place of encounter, where the people of Israel see and experience God.
It is a place of relationship, where the people and God enter into a covenant together, like a marriage.
It is a place of learning new rhythms & skills – camp life, religious habits, and more.

Throughout the Old and New Testaments, we see people drawn to “the Mountain” to meet with God. It is an invitation to intimacy.

As we continue deeper into the understanding of how God heals and transforms us, we hope you’ll join us on the trail!

Water, Wafers, Water, War Mar 11, 2024

Show notes

It's time for boot camp. We like acrostics around here, but are you ready to learn a marching song?
In this episode, we are on the trail with the people of Israel as God leads them to the Mountain of God. God knows they need to learn to trust Him for their survival, and He has a plan to break down their victim identity and build in them a victorious identity.
Like any good boot camp, we have a marching chant to help us remember the four key events God uses to train the Israelites along the way, and it goes “Water, Wafers, Water, War.”

Water: God provides when the water is bitter.
Wafers: God provides when there is no food.
Water: God provides when there is no water.
War: God protects when the enemy attacks.

What do we learn about God and the healing process from this first leg of boot camp? Come join us on the trail!

The Healing Journey Mar 04, 2024

Show notes

Last episode we witnessed the miraculous rescue of the people of Israel at the Red Sea. They're finally free. Now what?
In this episode, before walking with the people of Israel into the wilderness, we're pulling together a vision of the journey as a whole.
God sees us when we are oppressed and groaning. He knows what has created our victim mindset and understands why we are the way we are. He loves us too much to leave us that way and wants to take us on a transformational journey that will

give us a new identity
teach us to live out of that identity
help us to live a victorious Christian liferather than one that is stuck in the wilderness

We hope you'll join us On the Trail!

The Red Sea Feb 26, 2024

Show notes

All is lost if God doesn’t show up.
In this episode, we look at the original “Red Sea Moment.” The people of Israel are trapped between a sea and an army.
There is no earthly way they will survive, and they know it.
Despite their fear and lack of faith, God shows up according to His plan and faithfulness. God does things for us not because we earn or deserve it.
What does it look like to pray in such a situation? To trust in such a situation?

The Eleventh Sign Feb 19, 2024

Show notes

Passover. It stands apart not just as the final sign in Yahweh’s confrontation with His people’s oppressors but also as a theologically significant climactic event that we continue to celebrate today.
With this event, the people of Israel prepare to embark on the start of their freedom journey. This is a journey from a slavery identity to a freedom identity.
In this episode, we talk about everything from Mephibosheth and grace to Communion and Jesus’ work on the Cross to Immanuel prayer journaling.

What do all these things have to do with Passover? Come and see.
