Open Roads and Pepper Grinder (2024) Apr 14, 2024

Show notes

Sorry for the late late episode, we let the bonus hold the normal slot and now you are getting your normal episode at the 11th hour. This time Matt and Hunter sit down to talk about two smaller new titles. The first is OPEN ROADS, the spiritual follow-up to the 2013 indie classic GONE HOME. Prepare to talk about walkin'! The second game is some silly Matt stuff.

Dune: Part Two (2024) *Patreon Bonus* Apr 09, 2024

Show notes

Here is the first of what will be many Patron voted bonus episodes. Big thanks to all patrons for sponsoring this episode. This week we're talking about Dune: Part Two! This newish film really captured the zeitgeist and delivered Frank Herbert's classic to a new generation. This week we'll hear Hunter and Sun break down their thoughts on the new flick as a companion episode to the episode we did on David Lynch's version a month or two ago. Regardless of our thoughts at we'll keep Dune jargon culturally relevant for another 10 years!

Daytona USA (1994) Apr 02, 2024

Show notes

This week we have a new guest, Leder Game's Developer Nick Brachmann! Listen to us talk about our shared love for brunch, arcade games, and pets. This is a fun introductory conversation to a guest that I expect you'll hear from again in the future, but for now we celebrate the 30th birthday for the classic Sega arcade racer DAYTONA USA.

Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story/Tempest 2000 (2024/1994) Mar 30, 2024

Show notes

Sorry about this episode being late, but this is a really special episode for a very special game. I hope you appreciate the discussion and I want to say earnestly that I really think you should play this game and experience this story. We didn't know a lot about this Jeff Minter fella and I now consider him an inspirational figure. So enjoy the discussion but also just play this game. It's really great!

Balatro (2024) Mar 11, 2024

Show notes

This week Matt, Hunter, and EJ are in the middle of an OBSESSION with a new card game called Balatro. This episode is more explicit than usual for some reason, we were just really wildin' out. Hope you're havin' a great week, don't play too much Balatro.

Show notes

Matt wasn't a Genesis kid, but even Hunter knew very little about this game. Well guess what: it's incredible and I love it and I want everyone to try it and fall in love with piloting this zippy little ship. This is a game about navigation, movement, resource management, and action! It's got EVERYTHING. And sure it's hard...but it's FAIR and that's all that matters. I cannot explain why this game works for me, okay? It just does.

Penny's Big Breakaway (2024) Feb 27, 2024

Show notes

The people behind Sonic Mania surprise released their new game last week. We've had Sonic fresh on the mind lately, so this couldn't be better for us. Hunter, EJ, and Matt binged the game so that we couldn't finally feel like real video game journalists and be one of the first people talking about this incredible new 3D Platformer. Is this the kind of new blood the genre needs or is this just nostalgia-bait? Surely you already know the answer...

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (1992) *Patreon Bonus* Feb 20, 2024

Show notes

This was originally billed as a Patreon only episode so that we could finally sell out, but we haven't worked out all of the kinks to having a Patreon only feed AND our normal episode for this week is running late so we figured we would just give it to you all! So here's Matt, Hunter, and EJ talking about Sonic the Hedgehog 2 to build up to the Sonic 3 episode from a few weeks ago!
