In 1935, a couple of Akron gangsters were convicted of the robbery of a mail truck in Warren after a mail pouch and some of the stolen booty was found floating in the nearby Portage Lakes. In 1925, The US Navy's first zeppelin - the USS Shenandoah - was ripped apart by turbulence over Noble County. The 14 crew killed included her Ohio-born captain, Zachary Lansdowne. In Carey, Ohio, a tiny white church built n 1875 was granted an opening day miracle, according to 1,000 people in attendance. As word spread, pilgrims from all over started coming to the town to pray. Today, the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation has collected nearly 150 years worth of testimonials from people who say their lives were changed after a visit.
