    In 1980, 18-year-old Jeff Sauber, on leave after finishing Marine boot camp, went to the Summit Drive-In with his friend to watch a movie called The Exterminator. During the evening, a stranger fatally stabbed Jeff while calling himself the exterminator. For the first time, Summit County Sheriff detectives reveal a racially-charged motive, and the fact that they have long had a suspect.     Ep. 166 - Mob Mentality: Marion Jan 24, 2022

    In 1919, Marion became an all-white community overnight when a mob intimidated more than 200 black families into fleeing the city. The unrest began with the murder of a white woman and police insistence that the killer must have been black.     In 1980, 25-year-old Nadine Madger was stabbed to death in the kitchen of her Willougby home while her infant slept in a crib nearby.     In April of 1865, more than 2100 Union soldiers were finally on their way home, having been released from southern prison camps at the conclusion of the Civil War. But as the grossly overloaded Sultana steamship chugged up the Mississippi, it exploded, killing most of those on board.
