    In 1961, a pair of NASA scientists secretly tested a group of female pilots in the hopes of making them part of the Mercury astronaut program. Their final candidates' list included Jean Hixson - an Akron schoolteacher and World War II pilot. But when NASA leadership and Congress learned of the undercover effort, they shut the program down and sent the women home.

    In 2004, 29-year-old DeShawn Brown, a minor celebrity in Akron where he had once been the city's greatest high school football talent, was shot through the window of his North Hill apartment. Police struggled to find a motive, and soon learned it was possible Brown was never the intended target at all.

    In 1977, a fire at the Beverly Hills Supper Club in Southgate, Ky. killed 165 people. More than half were from Ohio. In the past decade, two new books on the subject argue that the cause wasn't an accident, but arson set by the Cleveland mafia against a business owner who wouldn't sell to them.

    10-Minute Mystery: Marine Sulphur Queen - A Bermuda Triangle mystery Apr 14, 2022

    In 1963, the 39-member crew of the Marine Sulphur Queen left the port at Beaumont, Texas, on a five-day journey to take molten Sulphur to Norfolk, Virginia. The ship vanished, along with two Merchant Marines from Akron, Ohio. In the years since, fans of the "Bermuda Triangle" theory say the Sulphur Queen was a victim of paranormal forces.

    Ep. 176 - Serial killer Anna Marie Hahn Apr 11, 2022

    In 1938, the first woman to die in Ohio's electric chair was Anna Marie Hahn, a 32-year-old wife and mother who romanced old men in Cincinnati's German district, rob them, and kill them. She was convicted of one death, confessed to three others, but authorities suspect her of at least eight murders.
