    Oh Crap with Jamie

A podcast for conscious parents who drop the f-bomb. A lot. We are the overthinkers, the dreamers, and the doers. We are parenting in a radically different way than those before us. But our divine vision gets blurry cause…OMG…kids can be such a pain in the ass. Let’s work from the inside out, in a whole brain, whole body way to mitigate the crappy behavior. 312: Ditching the Parenting Industrial Complex Aug 14, 2026
    Show notes

What if the biggest thing making motherhood harder… isn't your child?

What if it's the endless stream of parenting advice telling you exactly what to do, what to say, and what you're getting wrong?

In this episode, Jamie shares why she's "pulling out of the parenting industrial complex" and making a major shift in her work. After more than 25 years of working with families, she's seeing a troubling pattern: moms have more parenting information than ever before, yet they feel less confident than ever.

Instead of helping, the explosion of parenting content has left many mothers second-guessing every instinct, outsourcing their authority to experts, and feeling like they need another script, strategy, or tip before they can make a decision.

Jamie unpacks how we got here—from the rise of the nuclear family and parenting "experts" to the explosion of social media, TikTok psychology, and the misunderstanding of gentle parenting. She argues that the real issue isn't a lack of information. It's a loss of confidence.

    In this episode, Jamie discusses:

    • Why modern parenting advice may be making motherhood harder
    • The rise of the "fix my kid" mentality
    • How social media has replaced nuance with sound bites
    • Why parenting advice without context often falls flat
    • The difference between information and authority
    • The evolution of motherhood from the 1950s through today
    • How the village disappeared—and experts filled the gap
    • The unintended consequences of the gentle parenting movement
    • Why so many moms are parenting from fear instead of confidence
    • What it really means to "lead like a mother"

Most importantly, Jamie makes the case that you don't need another parenting script.

You need to trust yourself again.

Because no expert, book, or Instagram reel knows your child better than you do.

This episode is an invitation to step off the parenting advice treadmill, reclaim your authority, and lead your family with confidence instead of constant self-doubt.

310: We fix ourselves and the environment, not the child. Jul 07, 2026
    Show notes

It's so easy to think our kids need fixing....but it's almost always an US problem or an environment problem. Most parenting "scripts" don't work because they're attempting to fix the child. Behavior is always communication and it's our job to translate that. If motherhood is making you overwhelmed, overstimulated, and burnt tf out, I can help. 309: When Talk Therapy Isn't Cutting It May 12, 2026
    Show notes

After taking a pause from the podcast, Jamie is back — not because of the algorithm, consistency pressure, or content treadmill… but because she finally had something she genuinely needed to say.

This episode starts with a reflection on stepping away from content creation and the overwhelming response from listeners whose lives were impacted by the podcast. But it quickly evolves into something much deeper:

A conversation about trauma, therapy, motherhood, somatic healing, lineage, and what happens when women stop shrinking themselves.

    Jamie explores:

    • Why talk therapy can sometimes keep us stuck in the story of our trauma instead of helping us move through it
    • The difference between pathology and mythology
    • Somatic healing, movement, and releasing emotions through the body
    • Why parenting often activates unresolved childhood wounds
    • The challenge of healing while actively raising children
    • How women are conditioned to suppress powerful emotions and “stay calm” at all costs
    • Community, maternal energy, and the need for real connection
    • What it means to reclaim space, power, and feminine energy

Jamie also shares a deeply personal experience involving movement, dance, grief release, ancestral reflection, and a moment that shifted something profound inside of her.

This isn’t an episode about parenting tactics.

    It’s about:

    • The stories we inherit
    • The stories we tell ourselves
    • And the possibility of rewriting them

If you’ve been feeling emotionally stuck, disconnected from yourself, overwhelmed by motherhood, or exhausted from overanalyzing your healing journey… this conversation may resonate deeply.

    308: I’m Pausing the Podcast (And Here’s Why) Apr 03, 2026
    Show notes

This episode is a little different.

It’s a personal update — and an honest look at where I am in my work right now.

Over the past few months, I’ve been feeling something I can’t ignore anymore:

This one-way conversation isn’t working for me.

    In this episode, I share:

    • Why I’ve been skipping podcast episodes

    • My recent hearing loss and tinnitus diagnosis

    • Why content creation has started to feel draining

    • The emotional toll of online criticism and “feedback”

    • Why social media isn’t built for real conversation

    • The problem with parasocial relationships

    • Why I don’t want to monetize with ads

    • And why I’m choosing to pause the podcast (for now)

But this isn’t just about what I’m stepping away from.

It’s about what I’m moving toward.

After hosting live classes and group calls recently, something became really clear:

I don’t want to talk at you anymore. I want to talk with you.

So I’m shifting my work toward:

    • More real-time conversations

    • Live Zoom calls and community discussions

    • A new membership space: Managing Modern Motherhood

    • More intentional, sustainable content (including YouTube)

    This is a pivot.

Not an ending — but a recalibration.

If you’ve been here for a while, I appreciate you deeply.

And if you’re coming along for what’s next… I’m really excited about where this is going.

As always — put your phone down, and rock on.

307: The Capability Crisis (And Why Your Kid Can’t Do Basic Things) Mar 24, 2026
    Show notes

We’re in the middle of what many are calling a capability crisis.

Kids are struggling to do basic things — not because they can’t… but because they haven’t been taught how.

In this episode, Jamie introduces the concept of scaffolding — the process of gradually building skills over time, starting much earlier than most parents think.

    Because here’s the truth:

Kids don’t magically wake up at age 9 knowing how to clean, cook, or take responsibility.

Those skills are built slowly — beginning as early as 18–24 months.

But many parents unintentionally delay this process by:

    • Doing everything for their kids

    • Rushing through tasks instead of letting them help

    • Avoiding mess, frustration, or inconvenience

    • Underestimating what their kids are capable of

And over time, that creates dependency instead of independence.

In this episode, Jamie breaks down:

    • What scaffolding actually looks like in real life

    • Why toddlers saying “I help!” is a critical moment

    • How helping too much sends the wrong message

    • Why struggle is necessary for self-esteem

    • How to introduce responsibility in age-appropriate ways

    • Why it’s never about perfection — it’s about participation

If you want your kids to grow into capable, confident humans…
this episode will shift how you think about parenting.

    305: Youth Sports Have Become a Billion-Dollar Pressure Cooker Mar 12, 2026
    Show notes

Youth sports used to be simple.

Kids played with neighborhood friends, parents volunteered as coaches, and the goal was just to have fun.

    But today?

Youth sports have become a multi-billion-dollar industry, and parents are under enormous pressure to keep up.

Private coaching. Travel teams. Year-round specialization. Endless tournaments.

In this episode, Jamie sits down with Jonathan Carone from Healthy Sports Parents to talk about how youth sports got so intense — and what parents can do to bring some sanity back into the experience.

Jonathan shares how a viral video about toxic sports parenting launched his platform and why he believes most parents truly want to do better… they’ve just never been shown how.

    Together they discuss:

    • How youth sports evolved into a billion-dollar industry

    • The pressure parents feel to keep up with travel teams and private lessons

    • Why kids today feel more pressure than previous generations

    • The myth of the college scholarship dream

    • How parents accidentally turn sports into a high-stress experience

    • Why kids are quitting sports earlier than ever

    • The importance of letting kids fail and develop intrinsic motivation

    • Why travel sports can either strengthen families… or break them apart

    • A healthier way to approach youth sports and athletic development

This episode is a must-listen for any parent navigating the increasingly intense world of youth athletics.

304: Kids’ Crap... How to Control Toy Clutter Without Losing Your Mind Mar 10, 2026
    Show notes

    Kids collect stuff.

Toys. Trinkets. Goody bag junk. Happy Meal prizes. Endless artwork.

And before you know it, your house is overflowing.

In this episode, Jamie tackles a question parents ask all the time:

What do we do with all the kids’ stuff?

From toy overload to random plastic junk to piles of artwork, she shares practical strategies to keep your home manageable without constant battles.

Jamie explains why modern families often have more clutter than ever before and how bigger homes and more storage can actually make the problem worse.

She also shares simple systems that actually work for managing toys and kids’ belongings.

    In this episode, Jamie covers:

    • Why kids don’t actually need many toys

    • The toy rotation system that reduces overwhelm

    • How overconsumption affects kids’ play

    • Why bigger homes often create more clutter

    • What to do with cheap “junk toys” that multiply overnight

    • Teaching kids to make decisions about their belongings

    • The difference between art and crafts

    • What kids’ artwork is actually worth saving

    • Creative ways to preserve artwork without storing piles

    • Why decluttering kids’ stuff matters for your mental load

    The goal isn’t perfection.

It’s creating a home that feels manageable, calm, and functional for everyone.

303: No, You Can't Have It All Mar 06, 2026
    Show notes

Millennial moms were told they could be anything.

    Doctor. Lawyer. Entrepreneur. Founder.

But no one mentioned the other two full-time jobs:

    Raising children
    Running a household

In this episode, Jamie sits down with Katherine to talk about the generational messaging that shaped modern motherhood — and why so many parents feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and like they’re somehow failing.

Jamie brings the Gen X perspective, raised by boomers and depression-era grandparents.

Katherine brings the millennial perspective — a generation raised to believe they should excel professionally while also building a perfect home life.

    And the reality?

    Something had to give.

    In this conversation, they unpack:

    • The generational messaging millennial women grew up with

    • The pressure to “be the best” at everything

    • Why motherhood was treated like a side note to career success

    • How parenting expectations have changed across generations

    • Why so many modern parents feel like they’re drowning

    • The cultural differences around motherhood in the U.S. vs Europe

    • The unrealistic expectations placed on modern families

    • What actually needs to change

This episode is an honest look at the impossible standard placed on modern mothers — and why it's time to rethink what success actually looks like.
