OCR World Championships 2017 Part I Oct 19, 2017

Show notes

Just back from Blue Mountain, Canada. We have tons of interviews from the finish line of this year's OCR World Championships.

From the 3K, it's the top 3 women Nicole Mericle, Lindsay Webster, and Karin Karlsson. Followed by Justin Mathews and Scott Hyland. We then talk to the top 3 men Jon Albon, Ryan Atkins, and Ben Kinsinger.

The next day was the 15k and we talk to Albon, Atkins, and Woodsy. We then snagged a very excited Jesse Bruce. (Sorry Jesse, we told you the wrong finish position). We then talked to Marco Bedard, Lindsay Webster, Jamie Rahn (Captain NBC), and Nicole Mericle.

Hunter McIntyre was next followed by Mudstacle's Phil Harris and LeEarl Rugland. We chatted with James Appleton for an extended period of time to catch up with him and talk a little about Tough Guy.

Wrapping up the episode are chats with Jamie Styles, who we have talked to at many Georgia finish lines and Kelly Sullivan from NorEaster OCR.

Part 2 will be the finish line from the Sunday team relay, and a long conversation post event with Adrian Bijanada.

Trans OCR Athlete - Derik Martin Sep 13, 2017

Show notes

Derik Martin was born Diane. He knew in his heart at a very young age that he was gay. In recent months, Derik decided to take hormones and had top surgery to begin the transition of becoming a male. Derik also happens to be someone that loves obstacle races.

Many questions are being raised about trans athletes. We as an industry need to look at these issues and address them. We discuss topics including obstacles, changing tents, and educating race staff and volunteers.

Please listen in as we interview one of the first openly trans OCR athletes.

Hunter Post TMX and USOCRC Sep 05, 2017

Show notes

Safe to say Hunter is the most downloaded individual we've ever had on this show. He's one of the best in the sport, he's funny as hell, and never afraid to say the "unpopular" thing. Today he talks about the TMX event and subsequent TV, and how he took down all comers at the first ever United States OCR Championships put on by OCRWC.

Zoe Chazen Aug 31, 2017

Show notes

Meet Zoe Chazen, a rising college junior who lives in New York. You most likely saw her on the recently aired Toughest Mudder Northeast that took place near Philadelphia back in May. Although she did run (and get 50 miles) at World's Toughest Mudder in Vegas last year, she is super new to our scene.

We talk about how she came to decide to run and place in Philly, and then do it again at America's Toughest Mudder Midwest in Chicago 4 days ago. We learn about her training, or lack there of, and what really happened with her and Chikorita at The Mud Mile.

Joel Getty Aug 18, 2017

Show notes

Today's show brings you the OCR guy we've known the longest, never to have appeared on the show. Hard to believe, but Joel Getty makes his first appearance on the show after knowing Matt for 5 years plus. Joel and Matt dig into the good ole days of circa 2012 obstacle racing industry, what brought Joel into OCR, what took Joel out of it, and Joel's "Last Hurrah" at the "Last" Tough Guy.

Asheville Spartan 2017 Part Two Aug 11, 2017

Show notes

This episode could also be called : Asheville Finish Line Fun Plus Messner.

First you are going to hear several back to back interviews from the finish line at the Asheville Spartan Super.

Ryan Woods, Matt Kempson, Hobie Call, Robert Killian, Ian Hosek, Cody King, Nicole Mericle, Lindsay Webster, Rea Kobl, Faye Stenning, Alyssa Hawley, and a few more special drop in guests.

Then I have my first sit down with Laura Messner. 5 years worth of episodes, and I have never had Laura on the show. So it was nice to have her come by the ORM tent for a (mostly) uninterrupted chat.
