AI is NOT the Problem: The Global Panic is Misplaced Oct 05, 2026
    Show notes

    WASHINGTON DC 5OCT2026

AI didn’t escape a perfectly sealed test range. Humans left a door open.

The incidents fueled a global AI panic. The Military Innovation Lab’s new report explains how gaps in human-designed test systems allowed agents to reach real targets—and where humans can impose control.

In this National Security Desk episode, AI Is Not the Problem examines the events behind the “rogue AI” headlines. Drawing on the laboratories’ own accounts and independent investigations, the report traces how open access, missing safeguards and warnings that never reached the right people allowed experiments to harm real organizations.

For anyone using, building or overseeing AI, the episode explains:

    * What the agents actually did, and why the report challenges claims that they pursued goals of their own.

    * How humans can enforce limits on what AI is rewarded for, what it can reach and who can stop it.

    * Why a “human in the loop” can still surrender judgment to the machine.

    * How safeguards can operate at machine speed while consequential decisions retain human scrutiny.

The report treats the failures seriously. Its practical conclusion is that human control depends on design: clear boundaries, monitoring with authority to intervene, and decisions that keep evidence and uncertainty visible.

Listen to the National Security Desk podcast and read the full Military Innovation Lab report. Understand what happened before deciding what should happen next.

    Smart War>Fast War Oct 04, 2026
    Show notes

    WASHINGTON DC 4OCT2026

A military can strike every target on its list and still miss the point of the war.

When AI accelerates targeting, one question becomes more urgent: what will the next strike actually achieve?

In Smart War > Fast War: Imposing Judgment on the Kill Chain Using AI, the Military Innovation Lab argues for a judgment chain that connects each action to the war aim before the kill chain executes.

The paper returns to John Boyd’s OODA loop and the importance of orientation: understanding the situation well enough to decide what matters. It tests the argument against the Iran campaign and historical cases where having the right information still failed to produce the right decision.

At stake are questions a target counter cannot answer:

    * Does this action advance the aim, or simply add to the tally?

    * What does spending this weapon mean for the next theater?

    * What changes in the enemy’s will as well as its forces?

    * What evidence should make us pause—and who must sign if we proceed?

AI can help commanders see contradictory evidence and overlooked consequences. That demands a system built to invite challenge, with the authority to pause consequential actions.

Left of “Boom”: Intel and AI Oct 03, 2026
    Show notes

    WASHINGTON DC 3OCT2026

    LEFT OF BOOM INTELLIGENCE

Returning Intelligence to Its Original Purpose

How AI Can Help the Intelligence Community Remember What It Was Created to Do

The United States intelligence system was created to prevent strategic surprise.

    Its founding purpose was warning.

Pearl Harbor was the lesson. Strategic warning was the mission. During the Cold War, entire disciplines were built around identifying threats before they materialized, most notably the warning tradition developed by analysts such as Cynthia Grabo and the U.S. Watch Committee.

Over time, however, intelligence increasingly became optimized for a different function:

Explaining events rather than anticipating them.

    Reporting rather than warning.

Current intelligence rather than strategic warning. [onedrive.live.com]

Left of Boom Intelligence is a plan to reverse that drift. [onedrive.live.com]

    Back to the Future

The paper’s argument is not that intelligence needs a completely new purpose.

It argues that intelligence has gradually moved away from its highest-value purpose and should return to it.

    The mission is simple:

Help decision-makers understand what is becoming true early enough to do something about it.

    Not:

    * Reporting yesterday’s news.

    * Writing longer assessments.

    * Producing more briefings.

    * Creating safer language.

But providing warning before the decision window closes.

As the paper argues, intelligence should be judged against the standard of Midway, not the standard of a morning newspaper. At Midway, analysts worked from incomplete evidence, made explicit judgments, and provided warning in time for action. That is the model the paper seeks to restore.

Why AI Makes This Possible Again

The irony is that artificial intelligence may allow intelligence to rediscover its oldest mission.

For decades, warning was difficult because analysts could not process enough information quickly enough.

    Today, AI can:

    * Search enormous information environments.

    * Track weak signals.

    * Surface hidden patterns.

    * Generate alternative hypotheses.

    * Deliver tailored warnings to different decision-makers simultaneously.

The technology finally exists to scale strategic warning.

The challenge is building the right doctrine around it.

    Not Artificial Intelligence.

    Anticipatory Intelligence.

The paper’s central proposal is a doctrine called Anticipatory Intelligence.

    Its purpose is straightforward:

Expand decision space before events become obvious.

This means identifying threats, opportunities, escalations, and shifts in trajectory while leaders still have choices.

    In short:

    Left of Boom.

    Before the crisis.

    Before the attack.

    Before the surprise.

    Before the options disappear. [onedrive.live.com]

    The Return of Warning

The most important idea in this paper is not technological.

    It is institutional.

The authors argue that warning should once again become a primary intelligence function, with promotion systems, analytical tradecraft, AI tools, and performance metrics all organized around one central question:

Did this analysis help someone make a better decision in time for it to matter?

That was the purpose of intelligence when the system was created.

The paper argues it should become the purpose again. [onedrive.live.com]

    Coming Next in the Series

Smart War: Imposing Judgment on the Kill Chain Using AI

If Left of Boom Intelligence is about rebuilding warning, Smart War explores what happens when those same principles are applied to military operations. It asks how AI can support orientation and judgment, not merely accelerate targeting and execution.

First restore warning. Then build smarter war.

    J3 COUP - THE MORNING AFTER? Sep 20, 2026
    Show notes

    WASHINGTON DC 20SEPT2026

    THE MORNING AFTER

    A Pre-Mortem on the Aftermath of January 3, 2027

What happens if the coup succeeds?

Our previous assessment, A Coup Alert, examined how an effort to overturn the 2026 midterm elections could unfold on January 3, 2027. This new report goes one step further. It asks what America looks like the morning after.

To answer that question, the National Security Desk applies a pre-mortem—a red-team technique used in military planning and intelligence analysis. Instead of asking what might go wrong, analysts assume that the event has already happened and work backward to identify the consequences, hidden vulnerabilities and cascading failures that conventional analysis tends to miss.

In this scenario, the House of Representatives has been prevented from organizing. Protest and political violence have spread. Troops are operating in American cities. The constitutional crisis is no longer hypothetical.

But the struggle in the streets may not decide what happens next.

The decisive questions are whether a government that has disabled Congress can continue borrowing money—and whether members of the armed forces will obey particular orders, in particular cities, on particular nights.

This pre-mortem follows the crisis beyond January 3: into the Treasury market, the debt ceiling, military pay, divided chains of command and the possibility of a rump Congress capable of shaping the 2028 presidential election.

This is not prophecy. It is anticipatory intelligence: examining the consequences now, while there may still be time to prevent them.

Listen to the podcast. Then read the full assessment.

Because January 3 may not be the end of the operation.

It may be just the beginning.

    A COUP ALERT Sep 19, 2026
    Show notes

    WASHINGTON DC 19SEPT2026

A coup does not need tanks in the streets. It can begin with a clerk, a list of names and an obscure law almost nobody has read.

January 3, 2027. Noon. That is the moment the next House of Representatives is supposed to come into existence—and the moment this assessment identifies as the decisive point of danger.

We have the date, the place, the mechanism, the motive and the people positioned to execute it. In this episode, the National Security Desk explains how the operation could unfold, why it begins long before January 3 and which warning signs Americans should watch now.

This is not a podcast about an abstract constitutional possibility. It is a warning about a specific sequence of events, already coming into view.

    9/11 25th Anniversary: A personal reflection Sep 11, 2026
    Show notes

    Washington DC 9/11/2026

Every September 11th, we say the same four words: never forget. This week’s essay from The National Security Desk — on the Civil War II Substack — takes those words seriously enough to ask what they actually cost us. It lays out a theory of how nations lose power: not through weapons, but through legitimacy, and what happens when a government spends that down to zero. Then it applies the theory to the last twenty-five years — the forever wars, the debt, and a rally stage in Dallas two nights ago where the essay says something was sworn that hasn’t been sworn in this country before. Whether you agree with where it lands or not, it’s a serious argument, sourced and footnoted, from someone who’s been tracking this for years. Read “9/11 25th Anniversary: A Personal Reflection” at civilwarii.substack.com — and if it’s worth your time, the newsletter runs on reader support.

PODCAST DISCUSSION: TRUMPS ELECTION SPEECH WAS A PREDICATE FOR A SECOND COUP D'ETAT Jul 17, 2026
    Show notes

    WASHINGTON DC 17 JULY 2026

NSD TOLD YOU THIS WOULD HAPPEN

The National Security Desk Predicted the Plan to Cancel the Midterms — Months Before Last Night’s Address

Last night, the President of the United States stood before the nation and laid the predicate. Framed as emergency leadership, the address was something else: the latest move in a systematic plan to prevent a free and fair midterm election from ever taking place.

The National Security Desk saw it coming. Not in hindsight. On the record, with dates.

This podcast walks through the blueprint — seven interlocking NSD assessments that together form a single, coherent intelligence product with one conclusion: a cornered regime, knowing it faces electoral rout, impeachment, and prosecution, is executing a four-part strategy to subvert the 2026 midterms. The physical seizure of ballots and machines. An absolute immunity architecture built in the courts. Federal paramilitary forces deployed as electoral coercion. And a manufactured national security pretext to nullify the result.

Every piece of that strategy was predicted. The receipts are below.

Blut und Boden — published December 2023, two years before last night — named the dictatorship in advance. When Sean Hannity handed Trump the easy denial and he replied “except for day one,” NSD called it: the mask was off, the deal was closed. The 31-point list of announced intentions reads today not as prediction but as a completed checklist.

No Ideology — the capstone NSD framework — explains why this cannot stop. Trump has no program, no doctrine, no internal brake. Only a pathological need for dominance and supply. In crisis, that system doesn’t recalibrate. It escalates. The midterm is the crisis. Escalation is the only output.

Inside Trump’s Zombie Army — drawing on Hannah Arendt’s warning that isolation is totalitarianism’s most fertile ground — explains why the base cannot be reached by evidence. Social media has industrialized Arendtian loneliness at population scale, manufacturing the person “for whom the distinction between fact and fiction no longer exists.” This is not stupidity. It is a defense mechanism at full efficiency.

The Generals — decoding the Quantico meeting that most commentary got wrong — reveals the moment Trump told his high command that blue-state Americans are enemies more dangerous than China or Russia, and Hegseth promised “maximum lethality, no rules of engagement” against them. Two new forces now exist to fight this war. One of them — the ICE paramilitary, with a budget exceeding the Marine Corps — is being planned for deployment at swing-district polling locations this November.

The President Who Targets His Own Citizens — documents the dehumanization ladder, the legal architecture for killing, and the January 7th statement that ended the debate: “My own morality. My own mind. It’s the only thing that can stop me. I don’t need law.”

Zero Election Fraud — closes the loop. The data is unambiguous: 31 credible fraud cases per billion votes cast. Zero of the 60 post-2020 lawsuits upheld. The Cyber Ninjas audit — paid for by fraud believers — confirmed Biden won. The fraud they are screaming about is the fraud they are planning.

And at the center of all of it: The Regime Survival Phase — the cornerstone assessment that named the strategy, mapped the desperation, and predicted the escalation you are watching in real time.

The NSD’s bottom line has not changed: so long as the public remains peaceful, the military will likely refuse orders against its own people. A manufactured violent response changes that calculation entirely. Peaceful protest is not just a moral position. It may be the last strategic lever that remains.

This episode draws on seven National Security Desk assessments: Regime Survival Phase · Blut und Boden · No Ideology · Inside Trump’s Zombie Army · The Generals · The President Who Targets His Own Citizens · Zero Election Fraud

PODCAST DISCUSSION: ZERO ELECTION FRAUD IN THE US Jul 17, 2026
    Show notes

    WASHINGTON DC 17 JULY 2026

31 credible allegations of voter impersonation out of more than 1 billion votes

This article argues that systemic election fraud is nonexistent in the United States, citing various academic and legal studies to prove that voting irregularities are statistically microscopic. The NSD highlights data from organizations like the Brennan Center and the Heritage Foundation (of Project 2025 fame) to show that confirmed cases of impersonation or non-citizen voting represent a statistically zero fraction of the billions of ballots cast. Furthermore, the text reviews the legal aftermath of the 2020 election, noting that dozens of lawsuits failed in court due to a total lack of credible evidence. It also points out that when individual instances of illegal voting are discovered, they are often isolated acts rather than part of a coordinated scheme. Ultimately, the source characterizes claims of widespread corruption as a coordinated propaganda campaign designed to damage public trust in democratic institutions. The narrative warns readers to expect similar disinformation efforts in future election cycles despite the overwhelming evidence supporting current security measures.

The Speech NATO Secretary General Rutte Should Have Made Today Jul 08, 2026
    Show notes

    WASHINGTON DC 7 JULY 2026

    THE NATO INVOICE

The Speech That Was Never Delivered

The one the Secretary General of NATO should have given when it finally became clear that the story of this alliance has been told backwards.

Drawing on National Security Desk research, this episode lays out the hard ledger behind the rhetoric: European allies have quietly subsidized U.S. power projection for a quarter‑century, providing free bases, airspace, medical corridors, and tens of billions in host‑nation support while also bleeding and spending alongside America in Afghanistan, Iraq, and now Iran.

As the paper puts it, “the United States is Europe’s tenant… the landlord is now reviewing the lease,” and the real “welfare queens of the Potomac” are those in Washington who take and then accuse others of freeloading.

This speech is designed as a reckoning: to flip the Trumpian language of dues, deadbeats, and leverage back onto the only actor that has never been presented with the bill, and to show why, unless NATO claims its card and its voice, the alliance will be dismantled from the inside out.

PODCAST DISCUSSION: The Ankara Summit, July 2026: NATO Has Been Losing. Here Is the Surefire Way It Wins Jul 07, 2026
    Show notes

    WASHINGTON DC 6 JULY 2026

Europe’s Leverage. America’s Dependency. The Moment the Bluff Ends.

    Episode Format:

Two analysts walk through the most explosive NSD paper yet — the one that rips apart the mythology of American “protection” and shows, with receipts, how Europe has been underwriting U.S. global power for 20 years while being insulted for the privilege.

    What this episode actually does:

    * Shreds the “free‑rider” narrative with the numbers Trump never wants read aloud.

    * Exposes the strategic choke points: Ramstein, Landstuhl, Rota, Fairford — the arteries America cannot lose without losing its global posture.

    * Reconstructs the casualty tables that prove Denmark and Estonia bled more per capita than the United States.

    * Shows how Europe can end U.S. power projection in a single afternoon by enforcing the agreements already signed.

    * Walks through the speech that ends the bluff — the one that Trump cannot parry because it hits him in the only arena he understands: public humiliation backed by math.

    Why this episode matters:

Tomorrow’s NATO summit is not a meeting. It is a reckoning.

This podcast is the briefing senior officials should hear before they walk into Ankara and decide whether to enforce the lease.

    Who should listen:

NATO ministers, senior staff, military planners, journalists covering the summit, and anyone who needs the truth without the diplomatic varnish.

    Why listen now:

Because tomorrow morning, the alliance decides whether to call the bluff — and this episode is the spine they need in their hands.
