    Not Quite Dead

Not Quite Dead is back, with spin-off series Snow Blood. Set years after the original story, Snow Blood follows Alfie and Neige as they attempt to start to build a better life for themselves and vampires everywhere. One problem; none of the other vampires want to help, and there is this guy who keeps calling, over and over, insisting Alfie comes to meet him… Snow Blood is crowdfunding on Kickstarter from 7th April to 8th May, 2026 and will air in October 2026.

As an A&E nurse, Alfie deals with horror everyday, but almost being killed by a walking corpse and being saved by a vampire takes things a bit far, even for him. The vampire is Casper. He’s hundreds of years old, and hell-bent on finding out what’s causing walking corpses to wander the streets of Alfie’s hometown.

Now they’ve met, Alfie and Casper can’t seem to leave each other alone, despite their best efforts. Alfie learns that the relationship between vampires and humans is more complicated than just predator and prey. Whatever Casper’s misgivings about his own kind, and himself, Alfie is inexorably drawn closer and closer, in a heady, carnal blend of horror, hunger, love and lust.

Not Quite Dead is a (mostly) single narrator gory horror romance audio drama exploring themes of identity, sexuality and death. Complete at 55 episodes.

This show is part of the Rusty Quill Network, and is created independently by Eira Major (AKA Hanging Sloth) who writes, sound designs, and performs as Alfie and Neige.

S4 Trailer 2: A lot has changed since Alfie started making these recordings... Apr 17, 2025
    Show notes

Well. A lot of things have changed since I started making these recordings.

I think started out to write my own obituary. To make sure that something of the truth would be left behind when I was gone.

It’s been a research diary, a regular diary, a place to hold my thoughts. A place to hide. To bury myself in my own thoughts and feelings instead of facing up to what was lying right in in front of me. A way to hold on to the present. Desperately clinging on to now so that I don’t have to think about what comes next. A place where tomorrow never really comes.

Well. Fuck that. Nothing is forever. Not even vampires. Tomorrow is coming if I like it or not.

My name is Alfie Dellon. I am a vampire, and I’m recording this so I can take it with me into whatever comes next.

Introducing: Carmilla, a new adaptation over on the Re: Dracula Feed! Feb 14, 2025
    Show notes

Hey folks, it's Eira, creator of Not Quite Dead. Something a little bit different today; our friends over at Re: Dracula have been percolating something spectacular in their off-season: a new adaptation of Carmilla. Carmilla is one of those classic vampire stories which made me fall in love with them as creatures. This new adaptation of the classic toxic lesbian vampire romance is being done in the same style as Re: Dracula, and you'll be able to listen to the whole thing in the Re: Dracula feed starting from today. I really hope you enjoy it. You can find it by searching 'Re: Dracula' wherever you listen to podcasts, or by following the links in the description of this episode.

Based Vampirification: A Not Quite Dead Audio Essay Jul 03, 2024
    Show notes

Hey folks! Something a bit different this week. Last year, I got quite a lot of interest in the idea of me talking about my relationship with existing vampire media, queer readings of those vampires, and how those things contributed to the creation of Not Quite Dead. Mild Spoiler Warnings for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Twilight, Dracula, Interview with the Vampire and Underworld. Based Vampirification is me discussing the various pieces of vampire media that set me down the path which would eventually lead to the conception of Not Quite Dead. It involves tenuous leaps, stretched interpretations and deeply personal readings of the texts in question, all informed by many years of academic literary study and not-so-academic vampire brain rot.

If you're intrigued to take a slightly more scholarly jaunt into this subject matter, here are some things which I think make for a great jumping off point. There's a range of things listed here, including a fun video essay, some non-academic articles and an academic paper:

    • ‘The trail of blood : queer history through vampire literature’ https://louis.uah.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1220&context=uah-theses
    • ‘Vampires Are Us’ https://glreview.org/article/vampires-are-us/
    • ‘Closet and Coffins: The Queer-Coded History of Vampires and Representation’ https://ohiofusion.com/closet-and-coffins-the-queer-coded-history-of-vampires-and-representation/
    • ‘Vampiric Seduction and Vicissitudes of Masculine Identity in Bram Stoker’s Dracula’ https://www.jstor.org/stable/40347238
    • ‘Twilight’ (a video essay) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqloPw5wp48
