Summer Special: Whose Game Is It Anyway? Jun 10, 2021
    Show notes

#507. This week Ed talks to award-winning author and journalist Michael Calvin about his new book, Whose Game Is It Anyway? The book could not have come at a more prescient time, with Calvin offering a critique of the role greed has played in transforming the game and how community will always mean that the beautiful game remains the people's game. We discuss the Super League, the Glazers, and what might come next as private equity and vulture capital creeps ever deeper into the sport.

Summer Special: George Best, True Genius Jun 09, 2021
    Show notes

#506. There are few players more discussed than George Best. Just days after what would have been Best's 75th birthday, Ed chats to his son Calum about George's life and the new documentary and book, George Best: True Genius. Calum narrates a film that focuses on the football and not "all the other rubbish" as George puts it in the documentary's opening scene.
George Best: True Genius from BT Sport Films aired on BT Sport on 26 May and can be found on-demand on the app and digital platforms. The book of the same name is written by Wayne Barton and published by Reach Sport.

Summer Special: Stadio's Musa Okwonga Jun 04, 2021
    Show notes

#505. Author, musician, poet, football podcaster. Musa Okwonga wears many hats. Based in Berlin for the past seven years, Okwonga has published three new books in 2021: One of Them about his time at Eton, In the End it was All About Love, about his move to the German capital, and Striking Out, a novel written with Ian Wright. We talk about his new work and then get to the bulk of the show, thinking about the summer ahead in football: transfers, managers, Manchester United, the Euros and Copa America.

End of Season Review Jun 02, 2021
    Show notes

#504. After more than 60 games, compressed into a short season, the 2020/21 campaign has finally ended as it begun: with United trophy-less and still searching for a return to former glories. There was progress though, we think. Ed & Paul round up the season, discuss our players of the year and enjoy some outstanding goals. There'll be some special interviews over the summer, with the regular pod back next August!

    Sh*t Got Villareal May 27, 2021
    Show notes

#503. The campaign ended in disappointed in the Europa League final. There has been progress this season, but United's penalty shoot-out defeat to Villareal exposed plenty of flaws in the team and in the manager. United's Plan A didn't work against a well coached opponent. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer didn't have a Plan B. Ed & Paul digest a frustrating night.

The Invincibles (Away Branch) May 24, 2021
    Show notes

#502. United finished the league season unbeaten away from home - just the fourth time that has happened in English top flight football. Despite playing a full b-team, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team were impressive in victory at Wolves. Then Ed & Paul look ahead to Wednesday's Europa League final against Villarreal. Can United win a first trophy in three long years?

Shafting the Club at Every Level May 17, 2021
    Show notes

#501. On the pitch, United's mens team lose to Leicester and Liverpool amid a hectic schedule. Is the heavy workload catching up with Ole's team at just the wrong time? Off it, women's team manager Casey Stoney resigns, apparently in protest at the lack of investment by the club's Board in the team and facilities. Is there any part of the club the Glazer family won't shaft for profit? Ed & Paul discuss, and then look forward to games against Fulham and Wolves in the week to come. For backers, the FA Cup, Premier League and major European Leagues.

Lights, Camera, Direct Action! May 04, 2021
    Show notes

#499. United's game versus Liverpool at Old Trafford was postponed after fans' protest against the Glazer family's ownership spilled onto the pitch. It'll be hard for the club to ignore supporters now, even if the inevitable spin casts protesters as "hooligans" rioting out of control. Did the protest go too far or not far enough? Ed & Paul discuss on this week's show. Also on the pod, a look back at United's demolition of Roma in the Europa League and ahead to games against the Giallorossi in Rome and then Aston Villa next weekend. Enjoy!

    Spin Kings Apr 26, 2021
    Show notes

#498. The fallout from the now collapsed Super League continues, with the Mad King Señor Perez being, well, mad over in Madrid, Ed Woodward spinning furiously in Manchester, and City and Chelsea denying either wanted to be in the tournament in the first place. Ok lads. Meanwhile, on the football pitch United played out a draw with Leeds at Elland Road. Perhaps with one eye on Thursday's Europa League semi-final against Roma and next Sunday's tie with Liverpool. Ed & Paul discuss.
