Kirsten Green is the venture capitalist behind Reese Witherspoons Draper James, Emily Weisss Glossier, Tyler Haneys Outdoor Voices and dozens of other companies. Throughout her life, she has always classified herself as a practical and number-oriented individual. Instead of taking a year off after college, like many of her friends, Kirsten opted for a more financially stable route. She took a job at Deloitte & Touche, earned her CPA and later went on to work in investments for Banc of America Securities during the rise of the dotcom bubble. But due to consolidation across the banking industry, Kirstens team was dismantled, leaving her panicked and completely up-ended. On this episode, Kirsten discusses the period of internal reflection that occurred after being laid-off, leading to a revelation of her love for people and relationships. She discusses her decision to take a leap of faith, pursue her own business, ultimately leading her to start Forerunner Ventures, a venture capitalist firm dedicated to partnering with ambitious entrepreneurs. Kirsten opens up about the obstacles she faced on her path to success, and how, in a way, she feels the whole world has been her mentor.
