    The Qallupilluit part 2 Apr 27, 2023

Today we go over the story of the Qallupilluk. Is it real or is it just a myth from Inuit folklore? No one really knows why these creatures love to take children. Perhaps they take children because they are lonely and like the company, or maybe they like how children taste, what if they are feeding off of their life force? Or may it be something even darker?
Many stories of the Qallupilluk tell of them wearing hidden clothing with large pouches on their back to carry children in. The Qallupilluk hides in the ocean, waiting for children to play alone on the beach or near the breaking ice floes.
Usually the Qallupilluk jump out of the water and grab children without any warning. Sometimes, however, you can hear them knocking under the ice singing a song trying to lure the children to there demise. Some elders have said that if the ocean begins to become wavy in an area or steam begins to rise from the ocean, a Qallupilluk might be hiding underneath the water so you better be careful. So the next time your family is on a vacation to see the northern lights, you just might want to be aware of where your children are playing because if you are not careful they might just be the next victim of the Qallupilluk.

    The Qallupilluit part 1 Apr 24, 2023

The Qallupilluit lurk under the water, living along the coast. They hunt along the ice floes, kidnapping children that wander too close. They tend to emit an ethereal hum that will draw the child closer to the water so they can be pulled in. It is assumed that the child is simply devoured, while others say that they are held in a stasis-like state and used to fuel the youth of the Qallupilluit .

Qallupilluit are said to be invulnerable in their natural state, but some clever Inuit hunters found a way to bypass this. They would call out to it, and ask it to change shape for them, usually into something like a seal or a whale. Then, they could kill it and bring home a valuable catch. Don't catch yourself out in the ice floes at night alone or you might become the next victim.

Were the Giants of the Northern Paiute a myth? Did these cannabinols exist, is there evidence, or were the bones they found just misidentified? In this episode we have some facts that may surprise you. As one anthropologist suggest maybe the red hair found is due to the fact that the hair changes after death. You decide in this latest episode.

The RedHeaded Giants Part 1 Apr 17, 2023
    Show notes

    Send us a text

In western Nevada, on the outskirts of the Humboldt Sink, is a small cave. It's hot and dry and isolated, but it wasn't always this way. It was once part of the enormous Lake Lahontan, a lake that was around some 13,000 years ago, and at the time one of North America's largest lakes. But it eventually dried up, leaving a number of smaller lakes, among which was Humboldt Lake. The cave was on its shore, and in it lived a race of natives who hunted and fished and enjoyed a life full of prosperity. But there's an exciting twist to these people: If you research these people you'll find that archaeological and historical evidence tells us they were not common Native Americans. They were the Si-Te-Cah, a race of red-haired giants, ten feet tall, and they terrorized their neighbors with cannibalism.

The people who lived in this area were the Northern Paiute. I know we did talk about these people before, but the band we talked about were the fish eaters of Pyramid lake. There are so many bands and oddly enough their names all have to do with food. Haha, my kind of people. Sit back and enjoy the show.
We finally have our new store up and running. So check it out. https://indigenoustales.threadless.com/

Patreon Episode Drop - Piasa Bird Apr 13, 2023

Please enjoy the extra content. We will be dropping a new show new week. The accounts of the Piasa bird were first written down by a French explorer. We've talked a lot about the Europeans but when I think of Europeans I think of the British or the Spanish. I don't really think of the French. Maybe it's because of our location in California. The explorer goes on to say We came across “two painted monsters” that were as large as a calf; they have horns on their heads like those of deer, a horrible look, red eyes, a beard like a tiger’s, a face somewhat like a man’s, a body covered with scales, and so long a tail that it winds all around the body, passing above the head and going back between the legs, ending in a fish’s tail. Green, red, and black are the three colors composing the picture. The natives in this land are known as the Illiniwek.

The Deer Lady Part 1 Apr 03, 2023
    Show notes

    Send us a text

The Deer Woman stories are found in a number of Indigenous tribes, they are often told to children in the communities of the Sioux, Oceti Sakowin, Ojibwe, Ponca, Omaha, Cherokee, Muscogee, Seminole, Choctaw, Otoe, Osage, Pawnee, and the Iroquois.

The Deer Woman, sometimes known as the Deer Lady, is said to be a shape-shifter. She is seen as a beautiful woman just off the trail or behind a bush, calling to men to come over. The Deer Woman is described as a normal young woman, except her feet which are shaped like deer hooves and her brown deer's eyes. Men who are lured into her presence often notice too late that she is not a natural woman and are then stomped to death. Other stories and traditions describe the sighting of Deer Woman to be a sign of personal transformation or a warning. Deer Woman is also said to be fond of dancing and will sometimes join a communal dance unnoticed leaving only when the drum beating ceases.

Today we get in to the history of the Sioux and their amazing tepees. They have a rick culture and are amazing architects. Sit back and enjoy the show and don't forget to download part 2 on Thursday. Please follow rate and review if you would like a free sticker.

The Secwepemc called the creature the Naitaka, as "an evil supernatural entity with great power and ill intent." The word "n'ha-a-itk" has various translations, such as "water-demon", "water god", or "sacred creature of the water". Suwapma means “The People”. Early settlers had trouble pronouncing the word and chose to say “Shuswap” instead. The Suwapma originally had 30 bands located in BC’s Southern Interior. This is our first in our new format. We will have an episode drop on Monday and then Thursday will be part 2. So sit back and enjoy the show. Remember we are pausing the patreon and the merch store. You will receive the items you ordered or you can cancel them and wait to order at the new store. Remember you can get a free sticker if you leave a 5 star review and send that review to info@behillnetwork.com

Tales of Warning Mar 23, 2023
    Show notes

In todays show we talk about tales of warning. We as indigenous people are not a magical fairy wizard like people. We are only a spiritual people. I do believe in ghost bc what is a ghost isn't it energy. I do believe in what people would call residual hauntings, more energy. I will also say I believe in curses because the one that believes in the curse gan give and receive curses or bad energy. The first law of thermodynamics states that energy cannot be created or destroyed; it can only be changed from one form to another. Sit back and enjoy these tales. Thank you for listening and sticking with up as we go though some growing pains.
