In today’s episode, we talk about the Smithsonian—how it was created and what they are really hiding. Who was James Smithson, and why did this Englishman want to give his fortune to the U.S., a country that England had just lost a war to?

And don’t worry, this does tie back to our people. We’re looking at how the founders of this country decided our fate with a propaganda machine disguised as a scientific institute for higher learning for all men. It’s about the "dictionary" they built to tell the world we were disappearing, and the struggle we face today trying to convince people we’re still here after 200 years of being told we’re gone.

So sit back and enjoy this wild ride of Nightmares of the Americas: Indigenous Tales.

Three Years, Two Stories: The Lucifer Telescope and the Bigfoot Hotline Sep 30, 2025

It’s been three years — thanks for sticking with us. Without you, this show wouldn’t even be possible. For our anniversary episode, we’re going a little X-Files with it.

First, we head down to Arizona and talk about the Vatican, the Jesuits, and a telescope on Apache land nicknamed Lucifer. Yeah, you read that right. A state-of-the-art observatory in the middle of a land dispute, wrapped up with questions about who gets to look at the stars — and why they needed a name like that.

Then we jump to Washington state, where the Colville Tribes set up a Bigfoot hotline. Locals, hunters, and even loggers called in to report strange encounters in the woods. Some of those calls line up with stories the elders had already been telling for generations.

Nightmares of the Americas: Indigenous Tales — three years in, thanks for listening!

Listener Tales: Knives Out, Bacon On, and Things in the Dark Aug 09, 2025
    Show notes

We’re back with a full table of listener stories — and they’re wild. Garrett’s got a bald, gray-skinned thing popping up in a Texas field like it’s playing peekaboo. Someone else swears a mimic opened the garage door and called them in their mom’s voice. Jarett runs into a pale, twisted figure in South Jersey that could give the Jersey Devil nightmares. And from Australia, River shares an encounter with the Mulu — part dog, part kangaroo, all bad news.

In between, we somehow end up talking bacon thickness, Red Bull recipes, and why everyone in these stories seems to be armed with a knife. Just another day!

    Bigfoot Revisited! Jul 20, 2025
    Show notes

    Send us a text

In this episode of Nightmares of the Americas: Indigenous Tales, the crew dives back into the forest to revisit one of the most iconic figures in North American lore: Bigfoot. But this isn’t your typical campfire story. We explore how a few different Native tribes view Bigfoot — not as a monster, but as a spiritual guardian, a symbol of nature’s balance, and sometimes even a teacher. Joseph, Gabe, and RedBear share Indigenous perspectives, slightly discuss the legendary Patterson-Gimlin film, and swap bizarre B-movie horror reviews along the way (yes, including killer turkeys and cursed fairy tales).

So whether you believe Bigfoot is flesh, spirit, tree, or interdimensional traveler, come hang out and revisit the legend with us.

    The Heart-Eater – The Stikini Part 2 Jun 25, 2025
    Show notes

    Send us a text

This week we are continuing our story about the Stikini – Part 2.

Last episode, we explored the Seminole origins of this terrifying owl-like being, the legends of transformation, and the powerful warnings that still ripple through Native oral traditions today. But now, things get weirder. This time, Joseph, RedBear, and Gabe dig deeper into the blood-chilling reality of the Stikini’s transformation, what it really means when owls appear out of nowhere, and why some stories say just speaking its name can mark you for death.

We’re talking vomited souls, dangling organs, shapeshifting, spiritual codes, and why some tribes say owls are messengers of death… while others see them as wise protectors. You’ll also hear about the creatures people have confused with the Stikini—like the Mothman, Thunderbird, Pisa Bird, and a terrifying giant owl some cryptozoologists believe is stalking the forests right now.

So if you missed Part 1, go listen. If you’re ready for the kind of truth that’ll make you double-check your trees tonight, hit play and hang on. This is Nightmares of the Americas: Indigenous Tales.

    The Heart-Eater – The Stikini Part 1 Jun 17, 2025
    Show notes

    Send us a text

In this episode of Nightmares of the Americas: Indigenous Tales, we talk about survival, resistance, and the things that still haunt the night.

We explore the history of the Seminole people—how they formed out of conflict, escaped colonization, and built a life deep in the Florida swamps. From alligator wrestling to stomp dances, their culture is rooted in power and defiance. But we also uncover something darker: the Stikini. A person by day. A heart-eating owl spirit by night. This isn’t just a story—it’s a real warning passed down for generations. We’ll break down the truth about bad medicine, the tools used, how it’s done, and why some Seminole elders still refuse to say specific names after dark.

Seasons, Spirits, and Spring Work part 2 Jun 09, 2025
    Show notes

    Send us a text

This week, we keep moving with the season.

The weather’s shifting, the land’s changing, and Native people are doing what we’ve always done: preparing, planting, dancing, gathering, and listening.

We talk about the Snake Men that still guard the Fraser Canyon, the horned serpents that rise from Salish waters. We visit the Ute Bear Dance, where people come together every spring to honor the bear and reset the balance for a new year.

Then we head down to LA where a reminder of resistance is seen everyday.

Thanks for sticking around and thanks for listening!

    We’re back, turt turt! 🐢

And what better way to kick things off than with a brand-new Turtle Island Talk.

In this episode, your hosts Joseph, Gabe, and RedBear catch up, talk trash cookies, Waffle House memories, and dive into some real stories from Native communities across Turtle Island. We’re talking about Canada’s $24 million investment into dementia care that actually centers Indigenous languages and traditions, the powerful mobile vet teams helping rez dogs and their humans in Oregon and beyond, and the disgusting veto by Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt that pulled funding from MMIP efforts. Yeah, we went there.

You’ll laugh, you’ll get mad, you’ll probably want to build a fence for a rez dog yourself. This one’s packed.

Hit play and catch up with us. We missed y’all.

This week, we’re taking a different path—one that starts in Cherokee and Mohawk territory and winds its way across the Americas, ending with the Rarámuri in northern Mexico. We’re not talking about monsters or murder today. We’re talking about what Indigenous people would be doing right now—planting, gathering, fishing, dreaming—and the spirits, warnings, and weirdness that come with it.

We talk about the Cherokee Raven Mocker, a heart-stealing death spirit that shows up when the seasons shift. The Mohawk Stone Giants, ancient cannibal beings driven underground when humans forgot their place. The Abenaki one-legged giant, Odzihozo, who dragged himself across the landscape to shape Lake Champlain. The Crow River People, spirits beneath the water who give visions—or take lives. And the Rarámuri peyote journeys, where the Blue Deer leads chosen travelers through the spirit world.

The cycle of spring, the work of survival, and the stories that still walk with us.

And yeah—some of it gets weird.

Stick around—next time we’re heading north into Canada and west to the coast, with even more tribes, spirits, and stories that still move with the seasons.

    Something's Below the Lava Part 2 May 04, 2025
    Show notes

    Send us a text

On this episode of Nightmares of the Americas: Indigenous Tales, we dive into Part Two of our deep-dive into the lava tubes of Northern California and the surrounding sacred land. We pick up where we left off — with the Achomawi and their warnings, the government mapping that followed the Indian Wars, and the places where people keep going missing without a trace.

We’ll get into field reports, signal anomalies, electromagnetic interference, theories the government won’t print, and the eerie global pattern connecting these underground sites. From welded vents and vanished hikers to biological containment rumors and Cold War experiments — it all comes back to what’s moving beneath the ground.

This is Indigenous history, lost geography, and unexplained phenomena all rolled into one brutal story the maps no longer show.

Thanks for listening and enjoy the show.
