BIO
"A bridge builder and a secretary, respectively, Loren and Patty Upton have lived their dream. Loren was a seeker of romantic high adventure, his goal was to take one American-made vehicle, a 1966 CJ-5 Jeep, around the world on a north/south course, from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, to Punta Arenas / Chile, Cape Agulhas, South Africa to Gamvik, Norway all on land except for crossing the Atlantic Ocean. This overland journey was over 56,000 miles and provided a lifetime of memories.
First all-land crossing of the Darien Gap of Panama and Colombia by a motor vehicle, 741 days & 125 miles of no roads
An entry in the 1992 Guinness Book of Records.
4000 miles of four-wheeling in Africa
Life-threatening breakdown in the Sahara Desert
Eye-opening journey through the former Soviet Union
30-year delay due to the unrest in the Middle East
Sadly, Loren passed away in August 2022, and Patty is attempting to fulfill their goal to showcase their Guinness Book of Record Jeep, the Sand Ship Discovery."

Brief about:
My name is Benji. I am passionate about Overlanding and Human Connection. I know right! They usually don't mix. I started my overland journey back in 2018 when a couple buddies and myself went wheeling and camping. I was immediately hooked. I started a Facebook group called Budget Overland and that opened the podcast door for me in November 2021. Budget Overland was fun and had its place in that time (for me personally). I have grown and shifted in my journey. I started this Podcast and YouTube channel New Found Overland. My approach to the word overland. If you've been in the space at all, you have seen the constant arguing of the word making most avoid the word all together. I was about to do the same, but everything I do is in fact overlanding. So, NEW FOUND OVERLAND was created in April 2024. I hope you don't take yourself or overlanding for that matter too serious. It's not rocket science. We love to travel, camp and help protect public lands and trails so that future generations can enjoy. Welcome, I am glad to have you here.
