(S2) Molalla, Oregon (Dayton Leroy Rogers: Part 1) Feb 21, 2020

Show notes

*This is a listener FAVORITE from Season 2. We are using a new format and recording style for Season 3 and beyond. We have kept this episode on the main feed as it was one that the listeners loved.
THIS IS A GRAPHIC EPISODE; CONTAINING VERY ADULT CONTENT
Part 1 of 2
In episode 28 of Season 2, Heather is joined by listener and true crime addict; Sam Simpson. In this episode, we discuss the Molalla Forest Killer - Dayton Leroy Rogers from Molalla, Oregon. He was classified as a serial killer who was known to rape and torture his victims. Although he was only active for a short time in 1987; that we know of - he claimed the lives of 7 to 8 women between the ages of 16 and 35. To his victims; all of whom were from a vulnerable population as they were runaways, drug addicts, and sex workers - he was known as "Steve the Gambler". Bloodlust. That's what he called the actions he took when causing harm to and eventually killing his victims due to the excruciating headache pain that he experienced. He indicated that causing the blood to come out of his victims was the only way to remedy his own pain. He was sentenced to death on June 9, 1989 and re-sentenced on March 8, 2006.

LR - Sexton Parent Murders (Part 2) Feb 15, 2020

Show notes

In this listener request episode, Heather is joined again by Kimberly - who is a SUPER listener and Patreon supporter! She has requested a case from her small hometown in Oregon. This case stood out to her as it was all over the media at the time as nothing like that had happened in her town before. This is Part 2, so if you haven't done so already - please listen to part 1 first.
We already know what the first and second officers observed at the home (blood, shell casings, sheetrock on the floor, an earring, and some meaty substance. But where were the parents? If they were dead, then who would have committed the murders, the cops would wonder. All along though, they had the suspects in their sight...at a traffic stop at 1am. By 5:30am, units were all over the home to search for the bodies and begin their investigation...their double homicide investigation.

LR - Sexton Parent Murders (Part 1) Feb 15, 2020

Show notes

HAPPY Valentine's Day!!
In this listener request episode, Heather is joined by Kimberly - who is a SUPER listener and Patreon supporter! She has requested a case from her small hometown in Oregon. This case stood out to her as it was all over the media at the time as nothing like that had happened in her town before. ALSO - Brian was in her elementary school class...AND asked her out on Valentine's Day! Did she take him up on the offer?
When she first reached out to me about it, I had never heard about it - which is crazy considering the details surrounding the case. Two juveniles (17-year-old Michael Ryan Sexton & 13-year-old Brian Adam Sexton) were arrested for the murder of their parents and the disposal of their bodies. Luckily though, they were terrible at covering up their crimes AND getting away. They were apprehended hours after committing the murders. But how were they caught? What did the police find?

(S2) Lakeland, Florida (Christine Falling: Part 2) Feb 14, 2020

Show notes

*This is a listener FAVORITE from Season 2. We are using a new format and recording style for Season 3 and beyond. We have kept this episode on the main feed as it was one that the listeners loved.
In episode 27 of season 2, Heather is joined by Brittany F. who is a fellow Cincinnati-an and SOON-to-be podcast host! She has been on multiple podcasts before Nature vs Narcissism and is currently working on creating her own! Be sure to follow @TrashLikeUs on Twitter for updates!
In this 2-part episode, we discuss a female serial killer from Florida. Have you ever had a babysitter? The main job of a babysitter is to keep the child alive, no? Well, apparently that was the opposite of what this lady thought. Christine Laverne Falling was just 17 years old when she started murdering children. These children were all under her care when they died and red flags weren't really raised. Why not? Also, why did she kill innocent children? Christine killed between the years of 1980 and 1982, until she was arrested. She was found guilty of three murders on December 3, 1982 and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for at least twenty five years. She ended up confessing to more than 3 murders though...and one of them wasn't a child.

Show notes

In this listener request episode, Heather is joined by Julie Ortega from the Women Behind the Veil Podcast to discuss a serial killer from Odessa, Texas. Our listener, Sal from Texas has requested this case and I'm glad that we now know about this sicko! Michael Eugene Sharp was classified as a murderer who kidnapped and raped his victims first. He had at least 2 confirmed victims but suspected of more. At the age of 28, he killed a mother (31-year-old Brenda Kay Broadway) and her 8-year-old daughter (Christy Elms). He kidnapped Brenda's 14-year-old daughter as well, but she was able to escape; which led to his arrest just 5 days later. Michael was executed by lethal injection in Texas on November 19, 1997 (at 43 years old) and 14-year-old Selena Elms attended his execution.

LR - #JusticeForAlissa (Part 2) Feb 02, 2020

Show notes

The last day that Alissa Marie Turney was seen by anyone was on the last day of school on May 17, 2001. There were several things about Michael’s actions this day that stood out to both Scott Fuller and myself when we originally took on Alissa’s case for Status Pending.
Since covering her case on Status Pending, Scott and I have had the chance to really get to know Sarah and we’ve become very close friends with her. Additionally, along the way, we’ve come to know and learn so much more about Alissa’s case than I ever imagined. Not only from talking to Sarah on a regular basis, but from Sarah creating her own podcast and sharing the story with hundreds of thousands more people! Sarah is doing some pretty amazing things for Alissa’s case and I feel like a proud momma watching her dedication, determination, persistence, love, and hard work pay off!
In this listener request episode, Heather sits down with Sarah Turney to talk about her sister's case.
