    Native Land Pod

In the spirit of the last stanza of the Black National Anthem, we rise from the past, rooted deeply in the soil of ancestral struggles, to build a home, to claim our space. On Native Land Pod, Angela Rye, Bakari Sellers, and Andrew Gillum guide us through the political landscape, wielding insights and unapologetic analysis, unraveling the threads that connect Black Americans and marginalized communities to a place they courageously call home.

In each episode, Angela, Bakari, and Andrew embark on a journey of reflection, taking stock of the news of the week and the country’s road to the polls.

Join us each week as we navigate the dance between past and present, weaving a narrative of hope, empowerment, and the unyielding strength that defines the journey to reclaim ‘Native Land.’ This isn’t just news analysis; it’s a movement, a conversation, and a testament to the power of those who dare to rebuild and redefine the meaning of home.

What Party Gets You Closer to the American Dream?

Michigan’s primary on Tuesday between a progressive, Abdul El-Sayed, and an establishment candidate, Haley Stevens, mirrors battles that have been playing out across the country. Here’s the question: how left is too left?

Join hosts Angela Rye and Bakari Sellers for episode 143 of Native Land Pod.

Everybody Profits From Black Culture. Do Black Men? | Angela Rye SoloPod Aug 04, 2026
    Show notes

Black men are highly visible in American culture, but increasingly absent from the places where long-term economic security is built: college campuses, stable employment, homeownership, and wealth. Why is that happening, and what do we do about it?

Dr. Wes Bellamy joins Angela to discuss the new report, The Economic State of Black Men and Boys in the United States, and what the data reveals about the economic path Black men are navigating from childhood into adulthood.

This is a conversation about more than unemployment numbers. It is about education, work, wealth, opportunity, and whether the institutions responsible for supporting Black men are actually meeting the moment.

A Nation on Fire Tour: Protecting Black America Jul 23, 2026
    Show notes

From the NAACP convention in Chicago: the cases of Nolan Wells and Karmelo Anthony have raised concerns about the treatment of Black youth and the narratives that shape public perception before due process can take its course. Black communities question whether the systems designed to protect them are working fairly and equitably.

From the stage, Larry Hoover’s mother makes a plea for his clemency. Larry is a reformed man who served 50+ years in prison for his role founding the Gangster Disciples.

Remember the church protest in Minneapolis that got Don Lemon and Georgia Fort arrested? They aren’t the only ones facing B.S. charges… We’ll hear from student activist Jerome Richardson.

And civil rights attorney Ben Crump has represented the family of Nolan Wells, George Floyd, Trayvon Martin, and others. Crump pushes these cases forward even after national attention has moved on.

Join hosts Angela Rye, Bakari Sellers, and Andrew Gillum for episode 141 of Native Land Pod, in conjunction with the 117th NAACP National Convention.
