    Show notes

In Episode 37, I pull the Rambler down to Franklin to hang out with Ashley Gorley for a bit. A few days before I interviewed Gorley, he landed his 39th #1! It was fun to hear a bit of what all it takes to be a very successful song writer as well as keep a balanced family life.

Ashley Gorley is an American songwriter, publisher, and producer from Danville, Kentucky, who is based in Nashville, Tennessee.

Gorley is an undeniable force. 6-Time ASCAP Songwriter Of The Year winner (’09,’14,’15,’16,’17,’18) has 39 #1 singles (as of March 2019) to his name and has over three hundred songs recorded by well-known artists such as Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, Florida Georgia Line, Blake Shelton, Brad Paisley, Jason Aldean, Darius Rucker, Trace Adkins, to name a few.

He was 3-Time NSAI Songwriter of the Year (’14, ’16, ’17). 12-time CMA Triple Play award winner. 3-time Billboard #1 Country Songwriter of the Year (’13, ’16, ’17), 12-Time CMA Triple Play Award Winner, and 2013 ACM Songwriter Of The Year Nominee. In addition to his chart topping singles, he co-wrote “Strong” for the 2014 National Chevy Silverado Advertising Campaign. A few recent singles are #1 singles include “Marry Me” by Thomas Rhett and “What Makes You Country” by Luke Bryan.  Gorley has written some of Country Music’s most memorable songs of the last 15 years including Brad Paisley’s #1 “Then” , Trace Adkins’ #1 “You’re Gonna Miss This”, Carrie Underwood’s #1 “All-American Girl” , Darius Rucker’s#1 “It Won’t Be Like This For Long” and the #1 Brad Paisley / Keith Urban duet “Start A Band”.

In 2011, Gorley formed Tape Room Music, a publishing company with a focus on artist development. Writers for Tape Room Music have already celebrated eleven #1 songs and eight top ten singles.

I have enjoyed knowing Ashley over the years and seeing him go from a songwriter we a few hits to being one of the top songwriter in Nashville. As his success has grown, he has always stayed humble. He has an awesome wife, Mandy, who has been his biggest cheerleader and supporter. He talks about how important she is to their family. If Ashley is working, you can find him coaching his kids sporting events or creating memorable experience with his family.

Episode 31 – Korby Lenker talks music, acting and being an independent creative. Jan 22, 2019
    Show notes

In Episode 31, Korby Lenker dives into all he has going on from music to being a creator and star of a new scripted web series.

Korby and I enjoyed hanging out in the West End area and talking about his story. Korby continues to take the definition of ‘independent creative’ and push it forward. He’s long been a heavy-touring, award-winning singer-songwriter; two years ago he added ‘published author’ to his resume, and now, as creator and star of a new scripted web series called MORSE CODE,

Korby doesn’t just play his guitar, he becomes it. Lenker recorded his latest batch of songs in his native Idaho, in various places important to him as a child – the Snake River Canyon, Craters of the Moon, and in a small cabin north of Sun Valley. Letting the natural landscape set the tone, he recorded during the day and slept in a tent at night. The result, Thousand Springs, earned, among other accolades, a 4 star review from MOJO Magazine, who dubbed his effort “Scintillating songwriting from a travellin’ man.”

Episode 29 – Granville Automatic joins me in the Rambler Jan 08, 2019
    Show notes

In Episode 29, Granville Automatic’s duo Vanessa Olivarez and Elizabeth Elkins join me in the Rambler and share some of their stories as well as some Nashville history!

Led by a modern-day Linda Ronstadt, Granville Automatic writes songs the Associated Press calls “haunting tales of sorrow and perseverance.” they have created a one-of-a-kind sound that revolves around their passion for storytelling. The duo, comprised of Nashville songwriters Vanessa Olivarez and Elizabeth Elkins, is named after a 19th-century typewriter.

In November of 2018, Granville Automatic released RADIO HYMNS, a 13-track concept record mining Nashville’s lost history from the two wives of city founder Timothy Demonbreun to the day in 1974 that the Ryman Auditorium was saved from the wrecking ball. Elkins and Olivarez self-produced the record, using some longtime Granville players and some of Nashville’s legendary studio musicians (and studios). The album rocks and rolls, haunts and soars, and pays true homage to the mystery of Music City.

We had a great time hanging out and listening to them go back and forth was pretty fun. Their differences make them great and entertaining. Enjoy their stories and learning a bit of Nashville history!
