Welcome to a chilling episode of our true crime podcast, where we shine a spotlight on one of the most disturbing and unsolved cases in American history: The Freeway Phantom Murders. This episode takes us back to the streets of Washington, D.C. in the early 1970s, where a serial killer known as the Freeway Phantom terrorized the community. Between April 1971 and September 1972, six young Black girls were abducted, raped, and brutally murdered, their bodies callously discarded along the city's freeways. The victims, ages 10 to 18, were Carol Spinks, Darlenia Johnson, Brenda Crockett, Nenomoshia Yates, Brenda Woodard, and Diane Williams. These senseless crimes left six families shattered and a community in fear. Despite the best efforts of the police, the killer evaded capture, leaving behind a note taunting law enforcement with the chilling words, "Catch me if you can!" The Freeway Phantom operated with brazen impunity, making phone calls to the victims' families and flaunting his crimes. In this episode, we delve deep into the dark underbelly of the investigation, examining the mishandling and abandonment of the case that has left these murders unsolved for over 50 years. We hear firsthand accounts from the victims' families, law enforcement agencies, and those who narrowly escaped becoming victims themselves. In 2016, she dates a man name Jonathan Robinson who was from the same area, he recently moved to Houston,TX for a job. Her children adored Jonathan and so did Nunu for a time. 30-year-old Nikki McPhatter was on top of the world in 2009. She was recently discharged from the Navy after serving ten years and was anxious to build a successful life for herself. She knocked down many professional goals and worked through graduate school, earning an MBA. She owned her home in CHarollete, NC. However, while achieving her dreams, she knew she wanted to marry and have children eventually. The only way to begin working on that goal was to date. In 2008-09' online dating was unconventional and considered taboo. Nikki accepted the challenge and tried her hand at something new because what was traditional was no longer working. Equipped with conversations with family about the dangers and how to be safe from friends and family, she set out to make ALL her dreams come true.

Frederick Jerome Matting Sr. was born in December 1958. He was a lance corporal in the US Marines and lived in Cordova with his wife of three decades, Patricia Matting. He was 51-year-old and enjoyed a happy family life and a job as a machinist. However upon his return from work during the early morning hours of November 2, 2010, was the last trip he would ever make. This mystery seems will leave wondering if the usual suspects are responsible in this episode!
