Jumu'ah Lecture Burnley UK This talk today addresses two duties, namely the duty we have to Allah and secondly the duty we have to each other. The venerable Sheikh touches upon the relationship between you and I, between different races, between us and the rest of the creatures of Allah. And in all these relationships to never leave Allah out of the equation. We ought to bring Allah in our every connection, be it with ourselves, family, friends, belongings, animals that cross our path and even in to our relationship with social media. We must remember that we shall be called to account for our every action of our tongues, body and these days fingertips. Therefore preserve that pure relationship with our Creator by preserving the relationship with each other. Remember verse 56, surah HUD which means- ‘Surely I rely on Allah, my Lord and your Lord; there is no living creature but He holds it by its forelock; surely my Lord is on the right path’.

Building Bridges Tour of Mauritius. We have been taught most of us to show respect towards others. We were taught by our parents and at times teachers. But is this respect limited to only people whom we are acquainted? What about friends of friends? Extended family members 100 times removed? Cats? Dogs? Snakes? Pigs? We are forbidden touching dogs but there are circumstances that permit. Remember the man who was forgiven all previous sins and granted paradise simply for his one single act of respect and kindness? What did he do? He gave a thirsty dog water to drink. Who was watching? Nomads? Passing caravan maybe? No. No one like that. Only the One who mattered most- Allah. He saw and He rewarded. Next we look at dignity. It is needed in our every manner; in our every act and speech. Even the fingers forwarding messages must be filled with dignity. Do not demean ourselves by forwarding lude albeit funny messages or memes because remember- it's being recorded in our book of deeds. Islam is a religion of respect and dignity. The Quran tells us so. The example of the greatest man to walk this Earth teaches us so. When he could have quashed a people for spilling his blood he chose instead to complain to the Almighty of his own shortcomings. That is respect and dignity for others. In this episode of the Supplication Series, Mufti Ismail Menk talks about two supplications from the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH) which would help us in our daily lives. The first one is when we end up gossiping in parties and events called Kufaratul-Majlis, it will wash away the sins we receive for our acts while sitting at the gathering. The second one is the du’a for Istekhara an act from the Sunnah for times when we need to make some tough decisions in our lives and need some guidance.
