    Podcast 645: 145,000 Mile Record w/ Patrick Cornell Oct 13, 2025
    Show notes

145,000 miles in 145 days. Wow, just wow. Patrick 'Old Man' Cornell just set a new long distance riding record, not just by beating the old record of 100,000 miles, but adding in the previous record of 45,000 miles. When I heard this, I wondered what kind of superhuman could achieve this? How much planning did he do? How much luck did he have? But most importantly I wondered "Why?" Pat answers all those questions and more for us, but most importantly is the answer to the question "Why?"; to raise money for Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy. Give a listen and join us on the journey with him. Oh, and also, Liza bought a new bike. With Liza, Stumpy John, Neal, Bagel, Chris and Michelle Comly. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61576757769208 www.motorcyclesandmisfits.com motorcyclesandmisfits@gmail.com www.patreon.com/motorcyclesandmisfits www.zazzle.com/store/recyclegarage www.youtube.com/channel/UC3wKZSP0J9FBGB79169ciew womenridersworldrelay.com/ adifferentagenda.com/products/the-lost-tribe-25 motorcyclesandmisfits.com/shop Join our Discord at discord.gg/hpRZcucHCT

    Podcast 644: Father/Daughter Race Team w/John & Annie Cloonan Oct 06, 2025
    Show notes

To share your passion of motorcycles with friends is fun, but sharing your passion of motorcycle racing with your daughter is even better. Annie grew up watching her dad John race, and at a very early age asked when she could get her own bike. Through him she discovered the same passion for racing motorcycles as her dad, starting out on smaller bikes and working her way up to now, where she and her dad are racing on identical bikes. They have formed the Itty Bitty Racing Committee and travel together to racetracks, wrenching, riding and camping side by side. They have started their own podcast about their racing experiences, and you can find it here: https://open.spotify.com/show/0ZvUISRuBTbC2MDxdH3nU7 With Liza, Miss Emma, Neal and Bagel. https://ittybittyracing.com/ https://www.instagram.com/ittybittyracing/ www.motorcyclesandmisfits.com motorcyclesandmisfits@gmail.com www.patreon.com/motorcyclesandmisfits www.zazzle.com/store/recyclegarage www.youtube.com/channel/UC3wKZSP0J9FBGB79169ciew womenridersworldrelay.com/ adifferentagenda.com/products/the-lost-tribe-25 motorcyclesandmisfits.com/shop Join our Discord at discord.gg/hpRZcucHCT

Podcast 643: Angels of Dirt w/Wendy Schneider Sep 29, 2025
    Show notes

Charlotte Kainz was just a kid, and even though we never met her, we have a lot in common with her. Like us, she was obsessed with bikes since she was little. She got her first bike, a PW50 at the age of four, and with her family's support, starting racing flat track at a young age. It was a family affair, and they could be found most weekends at the local track, where the owners treated everyone like extended family. It was here that our guest, Wendy Schneider, first met Charlotte and started interviewing her back in 2006 for her documentary on women flat track racers. It was only after Charlotte's untimely death on the race track in 2016 (where Stumpy John witnessed the crash in person) that Wendy realized the film needed to be about her and her extraordinary life. Wendy talks about the making of the film, getting to know Charlotte, her family and all of the other riders. Podcast 642: The Existential Biker and the Furry Sep 22, 2025
    Show notes

This episode takes a more philosophical twist. We are joined by The Existential Biker, Louisa Swaden, whose new book The Stoic Rider: Philosophy in Motion has just been published. After decades away from motorcycling Louisa returned in her 50s as a nervous novice with a fear of speed. Which makes her story all the more extraordinary because within the space of eighteen months she went from being afraid to go over 50mph on the freeway to racing at Bonneville and setting land speed records at Pendine Beach in Wales. Louisa attributes her success to her stoic mindset and her decision to just say Yes! to opportunity, even when you're not ready. With Liza, Louisa, Miss Emma, Sofia, Neil, Stumpy John and Bagel. www.motorcyclesandmisfits.com motorcyclesandmisfits@gmail.com www.patreon.com/motorcyclesandmisfits www.zazzle.com/store/recyclegarage www.youtube.com/channel/UC3wKZSP0J9FBGB79169ciew womenridersworldrelay.com/ adifferentagenda.com/products/the-lost-tribe-25 motorcyclesandmisfits.com/shop Join our Discord at discord.gg/hpRZcucHCT

Podcast 641: Heinkel Scooters, Ryvid Bikes and Ducati Rebuilds Sep 17, 2025
    Show notes

On this podcast we are joined by Bagel's friend Bud, who discussed their recent trip to the Heinkel rally. He also gushes about his new electric motorcycle; the Ryvid. Big Head Todd updates us on his basket case Ducati 996 he's rebuilding, and we end with some great listener emails. Podcast 640: Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials Sep 08, 2025
    Show notes

Attending the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials has been a bucket list event for us, so when an opportunity came up we took it. Now you might think Bonneville is all about speed, and for the most part it is, but what was most amazing was the community (or the salt family as we came to learn). You'll find everything from 50cc antique bikes to 3000cc fully shrouded custom built streamliners, and everything in between. We talked with some of the racers, like Chris Rivas who pilots the Bub 7 Streamliner, and James Hammond on his BMW S1000R that is also his street bike. We also talked to the legend Denis Manning, who built the Bub 7, specifically about the 3000cc 4 cylinder V-twin motor that he designed and built himself. We talked to volunteers Edwin, Larry, Sergio and Alan, and learn more about the scrutineering process, as well as how all of the bikes are categorized. We also recorded some of the sounds of Bonneville, like the rider's meeting, announcements, and bike inspections so that you could get a sense of what it's like to be there yourself. Podcast 639: Moto Fantasy Camp Sep 01, 2025
    Show notes

Wendy Crockett joins the Misfits for a weekend of dirt instruction, wrenching and podcasting. In this episode Jim and Liza give a small recap on the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials, and Jim tells a story about trying to fix a flat tire in the middle of nowhere, and ultimately running out of f**ks. Wendy and Liza taught a basic dirt bike class, and have some ideas of their own of what should be included in the perfect moto training camp. In lieu of Wendy being here, we all state what we think is the best long distance riding bike you can buy right now, and some of them are not what you would expect. And lastly we read listener emails. Podcast 638: Replay - The Flying Angel Debbie Lawler Aug 24, 2025
    Show notes

Here's another one of Liza's favorites from the archives, daredevil Debbie Lawler. When Debbie beat Even Knievel's jumping record in February 1974 at the age if 21, the American press was riveted. While there had been a handful of women who raced motorcycles there hadn't been any female daredevils professionally jumping them - much-less upstaging the brashest stunt rider of the era on national TV. Newspapers labeled her the "female Evel Knievel," a "motorcycle madam" and "tigress on a cycle." We talk to her about how she got into jumping, how she got out and how awesome her dad was.

Podcast 637: Dream Garage, Dream Property, Dream Neighborhood Aug 18, 2025
    Show notes

We all dream about the perfect garage. What would be in yours? All the best tools? Couches? A cigar bar and big screen TV? What about a clean checkerboard floor to display all of your bikes? Now take it bigger; what would your dream parcel be? Would your land have a track and a giant barn size shop? Maybe a bike wash station? Now dream even bigger. What if you could take over and old mall, make the Sears the bike shop, the Macy's and indoor track, the parking lot a supermoto track, and all of the shops could be apartments for you and your friends. We talk about our dreams and what would be in our fantasy garages. We also talk about Liza's Harley and what it's going to take to sell it in this market, what's in the box of goodies from a listener, Scotties Toot Scoot ride on a C70, and we read listener emails, one of which makes us really think about riding, the risks and what we overcome to ride. Podcast 637: When Old Simplicity Beats New Technology Aug 11, 2025
    Show notes

We all love new technology; ABS brakes, fuel injection, traction control, etc. But when is it too much? Sometimes it's nice to have a simple bike that is all mechanical, and everything can be taken apart and fixed. Advancing or retarding the timing, changing the jets and being able to easily access the spark plugs. These are things that we like having control of. Now don't get your panties in a wad about modern technology. We know that overall it's made motorcycling safer and more accessible to many, but for those that like to diagnose, tweak and rebuild, sometimes the technology just gets in the way. With Liza, Stumpy John, Miss Emma, Neal, Scottie, Naked Jim and Bagel. www.motorcyclesandmisfits.com motorcyclesandmisfits@gmail.com www.patreon.com/motorcyclesandmisfits www.zazzle.com/store/recyclegarage www.youtube.com/channel/UC3wKZSP0J9FBGB79169ciew womenridersworldrelay.com/ adifferentagenda.com/products/the-lost-tribe-25 motorcyclesandmisfits.com/shop Join our Discord at discord.gg/hpRZcucHCT
