Ep. 14 Katherine Canipe On Going Viral and Boys And Ghouls! Oct 05, 2015
    Show notes

Actress Kat Canipe follow on Twitter @allhallowskat It's been quite a year for actress Kat Canipe. She got engaged, then her Back To The Future engagement photo and Halloween themed proposal video went viral in a matter of seconds. Both moments capturing their personalities and love perfectly. The most beautiful and terrifying proposal ever! Now millions of eyes around the world are watching to see what will happen when she and fiance Alec Wells walk down the aisle in a few months. No pressure! It's also the first podcast in October and Kat is a huge horror movie fan. So of course I wanted to her come in and talk about witches, Halloween, and why Robin Lively won't be on my show. Seriously, why won't she come on? Back To The Future engagement photo (photo credit: @rickymiddlesworth) Anyway, also in our conversation Kat explains what really happened after she went viral. Did she start getting offers for big budget movies? I've often been curious about this myself. The internet seems to collectively wait with bated breath for the next viral star. Then just as quickly, dispose of them, and move on. But there are real people behind these internet sensations who are quickly thrust into the spotlight to be praised or demonized by the public. Some of them want the instant fame, and some just thought it would be funny to make a vine of themselves dancing awkwardly in a Marshalls. Scary! Speaking of scary, one of the main reasons I asked Kat to come on is because she's my friend (yay!) and she's the co-host of the Boys and Ghouls podcast with my other friend (yay!) Marshall Hicks (hey hey, ho ho). This pair is a wealth of information on all things horror, and pop culture. If you are a fan of scary movies and the world of fright, listen to this podcast. Stat! You can find them on iTunes or on all the social media sites like Instagram @boysandghoulspodcast Twitter @boysandghouls as well as tumblr and pinterest. Whew! Boys & Ghouls podcast hosted by Kat Canipe and Marshall Hicks (photo credit @rickymiddlesworth) Kat's other podcast Carrie On covers one of my favorite shows of all time, Sex And The City. I know I know, so girly! But I really feel like there's never been a show like it since. It captured a moment in time on television and I was so glad I got to be a part of their world. It is also my favorite machine to play at the casino! Listen to Carrie On to relive all your favorite episodes with Kat and Alec. You can follow them on Facebook here and on Instagram and Twitter. Because she's such an expert podcaster I wanted to ask her thoughts on the medium. But Only because I wanted to call out the other new podcasters that are trying to jank my ideas. I see you ladies! And there's nothing I'm gonna do about it! (But please stop.) You can also see Kat October 8-11 at Let Live Theater in Hollywood in a new show called SPOOK NIGHT. If you can't tell by now Kat and I had a lot of fun in this episode. October is a special month for her not only because of her love of horror movies, it's also her birthday month, and when she got engaged. And now, she can add her first appearance on Motherhood in Hollywood to that list of memorable moments. Awww :)

Ep. 13 TV host, Author and Lifestyle Expert Jill Simonian from TheFabMom.com Sep 28, 2015
    Show notes

I want to be a fabulous mom so bad it hurts! But my lack of fashion sense, nerdiness, and wide butt generally keep that from happening. That's why I invited The Fab Mom herself into the studio to find out her secret! TheFabmom.com creator & TV Host Jill Simonian TV Host and lifestyle expert Jill Simonian created the website TheFabMom.com. She calls it a "lifestyle experiment to keep life flirty, focused and as close to fabulous as possible after babies." Yes please! Where do I sign up? Jill gives us an honest look at how having her girls (unexpectedly) changed her career trajectory, the competitive world of entertainment journalism, and what she thinks of the term "mommy blogger". It also happens to be what I think of the term "mommy blogger". Now aren't you curious? Jill and LadyP and LilMiss (her kids, not rappers!) I also loved what she had to say about finding a good balance between family and work on social media. It's not easy when part of your business is a blog about your family. What's a mom to do? I think we discover some pretty great answers to that question. I should tell you, secretly I covet her blog. She has so much great content . She also writes for Mom.me and is a contributor for the Today Parenting Team. How she finds the time to write, keep her website up-to-date AND be mommy to two little girls is beyond impressive to me. Somedays I can barely refill the empty toilet paper roll. So, you go Jill! If you'd like more info on Jill go to TheFabMom.com or find her on twitter @JillSimonian, or Instagram. Thanks for listening to the show!

Ep. 12 Sara Haley Drops Some Pre and Postnatal Workout Knowledge On Us Sep 21, 2015
    Show notes

I'm officially well past the point of being able to claim my fat as being my "baby weight". Honestly, I had "baby weight" before I had a baby. I sometimes call it a "food baby" or "beer baby". Basically, I'm quickly running out of excuses to get healthy and get in shape (and fun things to name my belly fat!) Enter pre and postnatal fitness expert Sara Haley! Pre & Postnatal fitness expert Sara Haley Sara has created a new DVD specifically designed for women who "had a baby 6 weeks, 6 months, or 6 years ago." It's called Expecting More: The 4th Trimester Workout. What's a 4th trimester, you say? I'm guessing it's the "beer baby" stage I'm in. On the show Sara explains how you should workout your body after baby. Expecting More: The 4th Trimester Workout focusing on body after baby It's a specific kind of workout aimed at the parts of your body that carried, then pushed out your precious angel. Yes ladies we're talking about abs, and kegels. She explains how new moms need to work their deep, inner core abdominals to counter the effects of growing a human. She's had 2 kids and looks amazing so I'm inclined to believe her. I reveal some pretty personal information about myself in this episode when we talk about a condition called diastasis recti which was not an easy thing for me to do. It's a very common problem, but a lot of women (and men!) can correct it with specific exercises. We also chat about getting your body ready for baby with a prenatal workout. Which by the way, she rocked while 8 months pregnant in her Expecting More DVD. 8 months pregnant! Okay she is seriously starting to make me want to pitch the pizza and hit the gym. Well...maybe after this last slice... I loved my conversation with Sara and hearing about how she found her passion for fitness. And she incorporates her kids into her workouts! Great info for mamas who don't have hours to spend at the gym or doing long workouts at home. Do you want one of Sara's DVD's? You can have one! Just tweet to me @MIHPodcast with a fun picture of you working out while listening to my show. Truthfully you could be listening to LL Cool J and I wouldn't know. But just play along! I'll pick 3 winners by Sept. 28th and send you a video from Sara's Expecting More series. You can also find Sara crushing it everyday on social media. She does Periscope workouts at various times during the week which are really cool so check those out. You can find her @SaraHaleyfit on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. And she has a ton of videos and blogs on her site www.sarahaley.com. You can also buy all of her DVD's on her website as well. Good luck to all those moms lugging around an extra "food baby." I'll be fighting the food fight right along with you!

Ep. 11 Author of “Media Moms & Digital Dads” on parenting in the digital age Sep 14, 2015
    Show notes

I read an article recently that said there are 4.2 million "mommy bloggers" (eMarketer.com) in cyberspace who share everything from crafts, and recipes, to their kids' poops and tantrums (see #assholeparents). A question I've struggled with since starting this podcast and blog is how much I should share about my daughter without violating the privacy of her future adult self. And how much should she be exposed to when it comes to the ever-growing social media outlets? Parents today have a lot more to consider when it comes to choosing what their kids watch, how often, and what the long-term effects of those choices will be. "Media Moms & Digital Dads" takes a deeper look at kids and the media culture Award-winning UCLA psychologist Dr. Yalda T. Uhls has some great guidance in her new book "Media Moms & Digital Dads: A fact not fear approach to parenting in the digital age." Jackpot! Dr. Uhls book lays out facts, studies, and practical examples of the challenges today's families are facing with screen time, and pitfalls of social media. In this episode we talk about her book, but also you'll hear me ask questions from my perspective as a parent looking for answers on how to navigate the saturated digital world. I get so excited to ask her questions I'm pretty sure you can hear me squirming in my seat. I love hearing facts and percentages. It makes me feel weirdly smart. Almost like I'm the scientist! By the way, Dr. Uhls is also a senior researcher at the Children’s Digital Media Center in Los Angeles. So she knows what she's talking about kids. Author of "Media Moms & Digital Dads" Dr. Yalda T. Uhls For example, she says, "For the first time in history, media is the most common means through which children learn social and cultural norms." Meaning, what they see on social sites like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat as well as TV programs and movies will shape who they become as adults. And if you've seen some of the stuff I've seen, then that can be a scary thought. In this episode we also talk about how what kids see their parents do online can also have an impact. Are you posting pictures of your child shirtless? Or on the potty? That could send a message that later in life, when they're teens for example, that it's okay to post pictures of themselves online in various states of undress. No judgement! Just something to think about before you press publish. This episode is sure to stir some chatter among parents and people with kids in their lives. Good! I think it's important to question our motivations when it comes to media and social apps. How else can we learn and grow as parents? This is a topic I'm still learning about and will probably pop up again from time to time on my site as I gain new perspective. I am by no means perfect when it comes to how much TV Chan watches, or how many adorable pictures of her I post (there are so many!) But if I'm going to participate in the digital world, I at least want to be well-informed in my decision. "Media Moms & Digital Dads" is available now on Amazon and online. For more information on her upcoming speaking events, visit her site at www.yaldatuhls.com.

Ep. 10 Stephanie Drake from Mad Men and Fear Inc! Sep 07, 2015
    Show notes

This week's guest is actress Stephanie Drake! You might recognize her sweet face from her role as "Meredith" on the incredible AMC show Mad Men. I am over the moon to talk to her because Mad Men was one of those shows I always wanted to be on, and was heartbroken that I never got the chance. Now I'll get the inside scoop from someone who was there! Actress Stephanie Drake Maybe they'll be a Mad Men 2: Electric Boogaloo? Eh. Either way, Stephanie's story of how she became Don Drapers' last and arguably best secretary is so inspiring! It really reminds me that any role, no matter how big or small, can lead to great things. We also chat about improv, how hard it is to find motivation to write, and I had to ask her about kissing Jon Hamm (like you didn't want to know!) Stephanie Drake & Jon Hamm on Mad Men Also you can find out what's next for Stephanie and whether she feels any pressure to continue to reach her previous level of success. And don't forget there's just one week left to leave a review on iTunes to be entered to win our first Motherhood in Hollywood giveaway! You could win an Honest Company Bath Bundle and an MIH tote bag. Fancy! Thanks for reviewing and subscribing to the show! For more information about Stephanie follow her on twitter @DrakeStephanieM or her website www.stephaniedrake.com Will Don return for Meredith? We think so! (Photo Credit: Courtesy of AMC)

Ep. 9 Justice Leak from Supergirl, The Vampire Diaries, Powers and The Walking Dead Aug 31, 2015
    Show notes

There's nothing better than seeing your friends succeed. And I'm so proud of my friend Justice Leak for taking a leap of faith and pursuing his dream. In this episode you'll hear how it paid off because now he's a working actor on huge TV shows. Actor Justice Leak Supergirl, The Vampire Diaries, Walking Dead I tried to get him drunk so he would spill more secrets about the shows and movies he's working on. But he was on to me! Hey, I tried! Sometimes in Hollywood, the stars just align. And formerly non-working actors, suddenly find themselves working regularly, on bigger shows and films, and with bigger parts. It's the cyclical nature of this business. Justice Leak talks to me about how "kismet" found its way into his life, time and time again. Hellgrammite , supervillain from the DC comic book universe He was a working actor having a major career lull, and the stars aligned for him. He's coming off a recurring role on The Vampire Diaries, and will guest star as "Hellgrammite" (pictured below) in the much-anticipated CBS show, Supergirl later this fall. He also gave some great insights into the casting process of several hit shows. What he says about veteran actors might surprise you! There's also tidbits for Walking Dead fans and fans of the Sony Playstation show Powers. So much good sci-fi stuff in this episode! But mostly, I love the sincerity and honesty he shares in this interview. And I think you will too. Feel free to keep up with Justice on Twitter @JusticeLeak and instagram Justice.Leak Justice Leak as "The Butcher" on The Walking Dead

Ep. 8 Tony Award Winner Daisy Eagan on Being a Broadway Baby! Aug 24, 2015
    Show notes

Tony Award-winning actress Daisy Eagan stops by to talk about what it was like winning the biggest theater acting honor when she was just 11-years-old. When I was 11-years-old, I wanted to be on the Junior Varsity cheerleading team. That was my biggest goal in life. It was the pinnacle of success in my world at that time. I really had no aspirations beyond that except maybe going to space one day (TNG-style). Actress & Mom Daisy Eagan The fact that Daisy Eagan at that same age was starring on Broadway (The Secret Garden) and won a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical is so mind-boggling to me, that I wish I could go back in time and slap myself in the face for being so short-sided. Beyond amazed is how I would describe what I feel about Daisy. She accomplished so much at such a young age, faced tremendous pain and loss, and still continued with her love of theater and performing as she moved through life. Daisy and Monty. Such a ham! Does that mean life was perfect? No. There have been many challenges. She shares things in this episode that affected her deeply, and still do to this day.Her mother died just 2 years after she won a Tony. And now she is a mother, trying to figure it all out and live out her life's passion for performing. She's a self-described feminist and activist and has a beautiful singing voice. She even sang "Let it go" for Channing before she left for NYC so obvi we are big fans. But mostly we just had fun in this episode. Just two moms gabbing about how much we (unwittingly) love our kids and this industry. We do! She has promised me play dates if she ever moves back to LA. And I'm going to hold her to that. For more information on Daisy go to www.daisyeagan.com

Ep. 7 The Fresh Beat Band’s Tara Perry On Landing The Role Of A Lifetime Aug 17, 2015
    Show notes

Some people just have a warmth or joy, an effervescence, that makes them infinitely watchable. You want to be their friend and cheer them on in all their endeavors. Tara Perry is one of those people for me. Plus she's a redhead so obviously I adore her. Ginger power! The gorgeous and very funny Tara Perry Anyway, I met her about 7 years ago through a mutual friend and I instantly wanted to be her friend. And thankfully she was happy to oblige. If she looks familiar to you moms and dads, it's because she plays "Marina" on the Nick Jr. show The Fresh Beat Band. The show is in constant reruns on Nick Jr and Nickelodeon . And there's a new animated spin-off series called Fresh Beat Band of Spies airing now on Nick Jr. Even though she's on a kids show, Tara is very much an adult, living out her dreams with her hubby in LA. She's a real working actress in Hollywood who can dance, sing, and act. Triple threat kids! And at the tender age of 23, she had already landed her first series regular gig in showbiz. (For those in the know, this is huge!) The Fresh Beat Band on one of their many tours. Hear more about what their shows are like in episode 7. So I was thrilled when she agreed to come on the show and let me ask her a bunch of questions about her breakout role, her many talents, how adorable her littlest fans are, and if she has any plans for little ones of her own. What? I had to ask! Her story makes me wish I could go back in time and move to Hollywood when I was 19. And learn to sing. And dance. And juggle. Well, maybe not juggle. Jugglers are creepy. We had such a great time talking that I hope to have her back on the show when she books her next series regular part. Keep and eye on her folks. It'll happen!

Allison shares her experiences in goal-oriented parenting, what the future holds for having children with hubby Stephen "tWitch" Boss (Magic Mike XXL, Ellen, SYTYCD) and what's next for season 21 of Dancing With The Stars. Allison was super generous with her insights and we get a unique glimpse into her world. I hope you enjoy the convo as much as I did!
