Rachna Fruchbom On Fresh Off The Boat, Writers Rooms & Feminism May 02, 2016
    Show notes

I love hearing stories from moms who've taken an unusual path to their career. Rachna Fruchbom definitely has that story. She worked for George Clooney's production company before becoming a SAHM. Then through her desire to stay creative, landed a plum job working as a writer on Parks and Rec. Now she's a writer for the popular sitcom Fresh Off The Boat and is learning to find her voice in TV Comedy. She's pregnant right now with her second child and still found the time to come be funny with me on my podcast. Moms are amazing! She also reveals what every actor should know happens after you audition. Plus what it's like working with Amy Poehler, Chris Pratt and Aziz Ansari. It's dope yo. So excited to share this episode with you!

KTLA’s Wendy Burch Tells Her Story Of Infertility, Heartbreak and Miracles Apr 25, 2016
    Show notes

It's National Infertility Awareness Week and we need to talk about it! I know there are thousands of women suffering with the pain, and stigma of infertility so I invited award-winning journalist Wendy Burch to share her story. Wendy is a reporter for KTLA news in Los Angeles and had a very public struggle with infertility. One that she's found empowering and now hopes will encourage other women to be more proactive in family planning. Wendy has appeared on several episodes of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and is great friends with Cheryl Tiegs, and Lisa Vanderpump. She also has a vivacious personality that immediately grabs your attention, which is why I love her so much. In typical MIH style, this episode is meant to give you hope, direction, and most of all make you laugh.

Hollywood Housewife Laura Tremaine Opens Up About LA Moms, & Oklahoma Faith Apr 18, 2016
    Show notes

When I came across Laura Tremaine's blog Hollywood Housewife a few months ago I squealed in excitement. She's from Oklahoma! And she's a mom! And she loves writing! And she loves being a SAHM in Hollywood! Once my heart slowed down from racing after my new internet crush, I realized she had actually shut her blog down about a year ago and was no longer as active as before. So I sprang into action to find out where she is now and how I could convince her to come on my podcast and tell me everything about her life. Fortunately for me she was more than willing and I didn't have to offer her my first-born. Laura came over and we talked about how she left a small town in Oklahoma called Ardmore, and found her way into Hollywood. She talks about meeting the love of her life on the set of a TV show, yet neither of them realized it at first. Her detailed story is here on her website and definitely worth reading. We talk about what's like being moms in LA, because it's not like any other city to raise kids. And her feelings about Hollywood Housewife, its success and eventual end. The most revealing part of the show is toward the end where we both talk about faith and how we felt about it as kids in Oklahoma versus what we feel now. It's so comforting to share something as intimate as faith and beliefs with someone you just met. But I have the feeling Laura brings that comforting, familiar connection to just about any one she meets. She was warm, funny, and put up with all of my ridiculous questions and comments which also makes her a saint in my book. Her husband is Jeff Tremaine, big time director/producer of all the Jackass movies and a string of hit TV shows like Ridiculousness, Rob & Big and Wildboyz. She has power as a Hollywood Housewife but you'd never know it by her genuine and down-to-earth demeanor. Even though HH is no longer in production, you can still read all of her archived posts and I highly encourage you to that. During the show she shares with me what she plans to do next. It includes continuing to co-host her very funny podcast, Sorta Awesome with her friend Megan. Plus maybe a new direction for Hollywood Housewife is in her future. You can find Laura and keep up with her on social media through her website, www.hollywoodhousewife.com

Comedian Cocoa Brown On Motherhood, Tyler Perry & Plus Sized Comedy Apr 11, 2016
    Show notes

One Funny Momma Cocoa Brown is also, one BUSY momma! The comedian is starring as "Jennifer" on Tyler Perry's For Better or Worse (OWN), and just finished a recurring role on American Crime Story: The People versus OJ Simpson. She also tours around the country doing stand-up shows and has had roles in movies like Ted 2, and The Single Moms Club. But even with all this success, she tells me her favorite role is being a mom to her son, Phoenix. A woman after my own heart! I couldn't wait to ask her how she balances the demanding schedule of a stand-up comic with motherhood. (Side note, I want to be a stand-up comic so much, but just thinking about it makes me want to take a nap. It sounds like way more work than I'm ready for. #lazy) Cocoa was very open about how in some ways her career changed after having her son, and in some ways it didn't. I found myself wanting to jump through the Skype line and hug her when she was talking about how much she loves her child and her career. I get you Cocoa! I want women in entertainment, and specifically comedy, to know you CAN do both. I love my daughter more than life itself, but I also know it's important to keep being my funny, wild, ridiculous self. We also talked about the challenges of being labeled a "plus sized" actress in Hollywood. We get a lot of auditions for "Bus Driver", "Lunch Lady" and "Security Guard." (All of which we nail of course.) But there's so much more to women of size, women of color, and moms that she wants the world to know about. You have to listen to this episode to hear how inspiring her story is and where she plans to go from here. I made Cocoa promise to be my friend forever which she didn't think was weird at all. Yay! And we found out we used to live a few blocks from each other for several years and had no idea. This really is a small town! Definitely take a minute to check out Cocoa's website or see her in a show if you can. You'll see why Tyler Perry adores her, Oprah thinks she hilarious, and why she's earned the title One Funny Momma ;)

    Show notes
