From ‘Say My Name’ to ICK: Joseph Kahn’s Culture Shaking Career Aug 04, 2025

Show notes

Joseph Kahn has directed some of the most iconic music videos of all time...Say My Name by Destiny’s Child, Everybody by the Backstreet Boys, Without Me by Eminem, Bad Blood by Taylor Swift…the list goes on. But he’s also a filmmaker who refuses to play it safe. His newest film, ICK, is a wild, splattery horror comedy that somehow feels both unhinged and deeply personal.

This week we sit down with Joseph to talk about his journey from shaping pop culture to using monsters as metaphors for modern apathy. They dig into the film’s messy tone, the real life frustrations that inspired it, and what he hopes people take away from it.

This one’s funny, sharp, and full of fake blood. Just how we like it sooo...

Slutty Horror: Defining the Undefinable with Cray Jul 28, 2025

Show notes

This week, we’re joined once again by internationally touring DJ, producer, streamer and horror head Cray for a wide ranging conversation about one of our favorite unofficial subgenres: Slutty Horror.

What started as a joke quickly spiraled into a full blown thesis. Together, we try to define the undefinable. What makes a horror movie slutty? Is it the aesthetic? The attitude? The blood slicked lip gloss and reckless decision making, a cast as hot as the day is long? All of it?

We talk icons, archetypes, monster crushes, party playlists, and the undeniable connection between horniness and horror. It’s weird, it’s fun, and its SOOO slutty.

You're gonna love it sooo...

Sinners and the Horrors of Cultural Vampirism. Jul 21, 2025

Show notes

Hey Horror Fans!!!

In this episode of Mostly Horror, we dive into Sinners, Ryan Coogler’s Southern Gothic vampire film that blends horror, history, and culture in a masterful way. This isn’t just a vampire story, it’s a reminder that art and music are fundamental parts of our human spirit, something many cultures, especially the Black community, have held onto and treasured even in the face of oppression. Especially in the face of oppression.

We explore how Sinners reflects this deep connection to creativity as essential to identity and survival, and how it challenges institutions that try to suppress or control that spirit. The film’s rich themes and striking imagery gave us a lot to talk about so if you’re into horror that’s thoughtful and layered, this episode is for you!!! Sooooooo...

Seance of the Slightly Inebriated Dead (feat. Portia Davis, Ghus & Cam) Jun 23, 2025

Show notes

With Steve out this week, Sean summoned three of our oldest friends. Bruce Christopher (aka Portia Davis), Brandon Coulter (aka Ghus), and Cameron Gawne (resident zookeeper and horror nerd) for a boozy séance and horror hangout.

They kick things off with some horror news, covering the upcoming Alien: Earth series, Robert Eggers' now confirmed to take on A Christmas Carol, and A24’s terrifying Backrooms adaptation.

Then things get paranormal (and kind of unhinged) as they summon the souls of the dead via a spirit board game (a horror movie themed 20 Questions where each of them channels the ghost of a slain horror movie victim, and the others try to guess who died horribly. Spoiler..they get progressively drunker and worse at it.)

So come for the news, stay for the chaos. Light a candle, pour a drink, and join the séance!!!

I Don't Understand You with filmmakers David Joseph Craig & Brian Crano Jun 16, 2025

Show notes

Hey Horror Fans!!!

This week we are joined by David Joseph Craig and Brian Crano, the filmmakers (and real life couple) behind I Don’t Understand You, a sharp and offbeat dark comedy about an American couple navigating the adoption process while on vacation in Italy. As tensions rise and misunderstandings multiply, the film explores what it means to stay connected when everything around you starts to fall apart...and turn murderous!!

We talk with David and Brian about drawing from their own journey toward parenthood, how they approached the story’s unique mix of humor and discomfort, and why they wanted to center a queer couple whose love isn’t in question. We also get into the pitch perfect performances from Nick Kroll and Andrew Rannells, the grounding warmth of Amanda Seyfried, and the joy of working with Italian legend Nunzia Schiano.

Funny, tense, tender, violent and totally original, this is a conversation you wont want to miss about love under pressure, identity abroad, and the messy beauty of trying to be understood sooo....
