October 20th: Catherine Wilson Hanged (1862)

We hear all of the time how executions can be met with contempt and disagreement. On October 20th 1862 the last woman publicly hanged in London stepped up to the gallows in front of 20,000 onlookers. Onlookers who, despite being a woman, had little to say after her death sentence.

October 19th: Start of the Zebra Murders (1973)

By all means necessary. It's a phrase that you hope police officers use to find the bad guys, without taking it too far. October 19th 1973 brought the first of what would be 15 murders committed by a group of Black men on white victims. And, while successful, the task force would make some questionable decisions to make sure they got their men.
