October 13th: Claudius I Killed By Wife (54 AD)
Sometimes, there is so much more to a story than just the murder. On October 13th 54 CE, a man was killed by the woman who was his wife in a crime in which the murder is only a fraction of a bigger, and highly political, tale of the Roman Empire.

Some stories become political statements that last well beyond the murder itself and the ensuing trial. On October 12th 1998 a young boy was murdered and, though the motive remains a topic of debate for some, his death became the push some needed to pass a much needed law to ensure safety for certain minority groups like the LGBTQIA+ community.

October 10th: Carol Wilkinson Killed (1977)

Interrogations, while incredibly important, don’t always help to solve a case. Or at least, not in the way that matters. On October 10th 1977 a young woman was killed on her way to work and, just 18 months later, a man was placed behind bars for the crime. A man whose interrogation became a major problem and led to, not only grave miscarriage of justice, but to a murder that remains unsolved to this day.

October 9th: Ricky Lee Green Dies (1997)
Sometimes, crimes are so gruesome, it seems unfair to make a jury sit back and listen to the excruciating details. On October 9th 1997 a man was executed for a crime that, when presented to a jury, sent some to the toilet to be sick and others to a psychologist to deal with the fallout.

The stresses of caretaking can weigh on even the strongest of people. On October 6th 1909 a woman was hanged for the crimes she committed against the children in her care. And, though she said she was helping the children, many believe her motive was simply the difficulty of being a stepmother.
