In this week’s episode of Mormonism Live, we delve into the controversial and shocking allegations surrounding sex abuse within the U.S. Olympic gymnastics team, focusing on the involvement of Peter Vidmar, a devout Mormon, and former Olympic Gold Medalist. Vidmar, who has been twice inducted into the Olympic Hall of Fame, once for his individual achievements and once as part of a team, also served as the Chairman of the U.S. Gymnastics Board of Directors during a turbulent time for the sport. Our special guest, Dr. Randall Bell joins us to share his unique insights into this scandal. Dr. Bell, known for his work in disaster recovery and trauma, will explore the complex intersections of Vidmar’s faith as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, his role in the gymnastics community, and the broader implications of the abuse scandal on the sport. Together, we will uncover the layers of this disturbing story, examining how power, religion, and institutional failures contributed to one of the darkest chapters in Olympic history. Don’t miss this eye-opening episode as we seek to understand the lasting impact on the victims, the sport, and the LDS community.
