On the evening of May 19, 1983 Diane Downs pulled up to the McKenzie-Willamette Hospital in Springfield Oregon and calmly asked for help, claiming someone had just shot her and her children in an attempted carjacking.
Police were soon on the scene and the evidence in the car did not match Downs' story. There was no gunshot residue nor blood spatter that could corroborate her story. After a 9 month investigation she was finally arrested on February 28, 1984.

This week we are examining something different. A terrifying aspect of life in the public eye is sometimes the ‘fans’ you get. Most are just happy to meet you. But for others, the obsession can be frightening and even deadly. This week we are examining the minds of celebrity stalkers and particularly those that murder the objects of their desire, or in some cases carry out acts that are just as terrifying.
We profile Mark Chapman, John Hinckley and Robert Bardo.

This is part 2 in our psychological profile of Stephen McDaniel.
Sometime after the evening of June 25, 2011 — 25-year-old Stephen McDaniel murdered fellow student and neighbour 27-year-old Lauren Giddings in Macon Georgia. McDaniel had stalked Lauren for months leading up to the murder and even helped in the search for the woman prior to her body being found.
During the search for Lauren, McDaniel was interviewed extensively by local media, he was chatty and expressing concern for his missing friend.
It would be a very different McDaniel who would later be interviewed by Detective David Patterson. In the tapes we’ve seen so far McDaniel is almost catatonic, giving only basic yes/no answers to questions.
We now watch the next part of the interview.
