With meditation, we practice bringing the mind back to this very moment. One way to do this is by gently anchoring our attention to sensations in the body and breath. What is it like to be breathing, right now? It’s a simple question for which we don’t always have an answer, for the mind is often somewhere else.

In this guided meditation, Mindfulness Exercises founder, Sean Fargo, leads us in a mindful exploration of this present moment, just as it is. We’re invited to stay in the now by holding our focus on what we can feel with the body and sense through the breath.

Listen in a safe, quiet place where you can be relatively free from distraction, and connect to the profound quality of your own presence.

Mindfulness invites us to observe this present moment just as it is. We practice leaving judgment behind and instead, witness what arises with a spacious sense of openness and allowance. Everything and everything in our field of awareness is welcome. By observing from a grounded, centered and equanimous point of view, we invite insights on the true nature of our mind to arise.

In this episode, Mindfulness Exercises founder, Sean Fargo, leads us in a meditation on sensing into this present moment, just as it is. Sean begins by inviting us to connect to our bodies and the support of the ground below us. We then turn our attention to the breath and observe what unfolds. Listen in a quiet place where you can be relatively free from distraction, and connect to the profound quality of presence.

Anxiety, depression, auto-immune disease, addiction and suicide have been on the rise in the United States since before the COVID-19 pandemic. So what’s going on? Typically, we glaze over this question and focus instead on labeling people with diagnoses, treating symptoms and fixing behaviors.

In this interview with Sean Fargo, Dr. Gabor Maté suggests we start by mindfully caring for our emotional wellbeing. By compassionately exploring the wounded human soul and the trauma at the source of our deepest pain, we can learn to heal ourselves and those around us.

Topics in this episode include the parallels between emotional health and immunity, and the role of healthy anger, , why Dr. Maté never advises anyone not to judge, and how those of us in helping professions can better practice self-care for sustainable compassion.

Dr. Gabor Maté is a best-selling author and sought-after speaker whose experience is rooted in 20 years of practice as a physician in family practice, palliative care, and addiction.

This interview is a brief excerpt from a presentation he gave to the Mindfulness Exercises Mindfulness Teacher Training program. You can learn more about that program and the other world-class presenters who join as guest teachers at Teach.MindfulnessExercises.com

The Value of Healthy Anger Oct 12, 2022
    Show notes

Suppressing our anger, or attempting to rid ourselves of it completely is something many people try in order to become ‘more mindful’. But each of our emotions, including anger, serves a valuable purpose.

In this brief episode, Mindfulness Exercises founder Sean Fargo explains how, although we might aspire to be free from anger, a healthy expression of anger can motivate us to set boundaries, or take fierce, compassionate action for what we believe to be right. For a deeper dive into the subject of healthy anger, Sean recommends Sharon Salzberg’s book Real Change.

Trauma Sensitive Mindfulness, with David Treleaven Oct 05, 2022
    Show notes

How many people do you know who have experienced trauma? According to research, at least 90% of us will live through trauma at some point in our lives. For mindfulness and meditation teachers, this means it’s likely that no matter the context in which we teach, someone in the room will have a history of trauma.

In this episode of the Mindfulness Exercises Podcast, Sean Fargo speaks with author, educator and trauma professional David Treleaven on the importance of minimizing harm in our efforts to help others, and what it really means to be a trauma-sensitive mindfulness teacher.

Sensing into Safety Meditation, with Sean Fargo Sep 28, 2022
    Show notes

With meditation we can practice nurturing and growing a sense of safety for ever-present access to ease. Each of us has a memory, somewhere, of a safe place where we feel at ease, balanced, and welcomed to take refuge. This memory is stored in the body. We might feel a sense of safety in the belly, the heart or the hands, for example.

In this episode, Mindfulness Exercises founder, Sean Fargo, leads us in a meditation on sensing into safety. The practice begins with an invitation to check in and observe how the body is feeling in this present moment. Sean then gently invites us to notice where we feel a sense of safety. By placing our mindful attention in that space, we invite the sensation of safety to grow.

Sean Fargo is a former Buddhist monk and founder of the online resource, Mindfulness Exercises. Sean is the lead instructor for the site’s Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Training Program and has worked alongside mindfulness pioneers such as Jack Kornfield, Tara Brach, and Sharon Salzberg.
