    Military Murder

Do military true crime headlines leave you hungry for every detail? Dive into your next mystery with Military Murder.

Every Monday, host Mama Margot – lawyer by day, storyteller by night – brings you in-depth accounts of infamous and underreported military crime cases. With over 16 years of active military service, Margot bridges the gap between the battlefield (or just basic military life) and the courtroom, so you won’t have to hunt down details across countless sources – Margot does the digging for you.

Since its debut in 2019, Military Murder has been the destination for 100s of gripping stories that illuminate the darker side of military service. On the show, you’ll hear about cold cases, unsolved cases, and cases which received little, if any, media coverage. If you’re passionate about true crime with a military twist, welcome home!

MACDILL AFB: Julie Schenecker [Part 1] May 11, 2020
    Show notes

Julie & Parker Schenecker appeared to be the perfect military couple. He was an Army Colonel, and Julie was an Army veteran turned stay at home mom to their two children. By 2011, the family was stationed at MacDill AFB, Florida and they lived in an upper middle-class neighborhood with their teenage kids. Their daughter Calyx was 16-years old, and their son, Beau, was 13-years old.

Behind the façade of a happy family was a truly mentally ill mother. And in January 2011, while Colonel Schenecker was deployed for just 7-days, Julie committed the most heinous crime imaginable.

Dig in with Margot as she tells you Part 1 of the story of Julie Schenecker. Listener discretion is advised.

SERIAL SNIPER: Mark Essex May 04, 2020
    Show notes

Mark “Jimmy” Essex joined the Navy at the advice of his father because it was the least “racist.” But after joining, Jimmy realized racism was everywhere and he became disillusioned as a young black sailor. After he was discharged from the Navy, he got more and more angry at the perceived racism in the country (during the 70's), so he decided to take matters in his own hands and he began his own personal war with the NOLA police department.

But this story isn’t only about the life and death of Jimmy and the 9 people who he killed. This story is about a hero named Charles Pitman, a U.S. Marine pilot who decided to take matters into his own hands, when he heard about the ongoing situation in downtown NOLA.

Dig in with Margot as she tells you one story about two servicemen – one died a murderer, while the other shined as a hero.

Well, when Nicole was 10-days shy of her return from deployment, she got the dreaded call, your son is in severe condition, come home now! Dig in with Margot and she shares this tragic tale to serve as a cautionary tale – beware who takes care of your kids!

SERIAL KILLER: Ward Weaver Apr 13, 2020
    Show notes

On February 5, 1981, Robert Redford and Barbara Levoy were driving from California to Nevada to go to Robert’s first duty station, Nellis AFB. Along the way, their car broke down and a trucker stopped to give them a ride. Later, Robert was found dead on the side of the road, and for two years, Barbara was listed as a missing person.

Investigators would get a lead in the case a few years later when a jailhouse snitch told them someone confessed to him. The confession came from a man named Ward Weaver Jr. who was sitting in jail, sentenced to 38 years for false imprisonment, rape, and other offenses and he had something to say. Dig in with Margot as she walks you through the first two branches in the Weaver family tree.

Be sure to subscribe to Wife of Crime Podcast to listen to Part 2, which will be released on April 15, 2020. Wife of Crime will discuss the next two branches in the Weaver family tree.

This case will make you believe there is actually a killer gene.

CAMP LEJEUNE: Maria Lauterbach Apr 06, 2020
    Show notes

In 2007, Lance Corporal Maria Lauterbach made a sexual assault allegation against her supervisor, Corporal Cesar Laurean. But NCIS didn’t take her allegation serious. Corporal Laurean was a model Marine after all, and Lance Corporal Lauterbach was a problem child. But when she turned up pregnant and it was possibly Corporal Laurean’s baby, Lance Corporal Lauterbach vanished a month before her baby was due. But what happened? Did she run away from the Marine Corps or did someone make her disappear to silence her? Dig in with Margot as she navigates this particularly difficult story to tell.
