Episode 35-Transparency goes as Transparency gets! Connecting with one of the youngest black osteopathic medical graduates EVER, Dr. Ashley Peterson. Sep 17, 2020
    Show notes

On this episode, Dr. Ashley Roxanne Peterson discuses how she dealt with the challenge behind the media backlash of being named the first Black DO rather than the true statement of being the youngest black DO graduate from PCOM-GA and potentially the youngest Black DO graduate ever. She talks about how independence at an early allowed her to flourish and start her medical journey at a younger age than most of her peers. We also talk about the importance of balance during the medical journey and how the medical environment enforces the thought that grades mean everything at the expense of personal development. Not to forget we also speak about issues surrounding black love and its relevance to our culture today. We answer the questions of why media has become her passion and has evolved her ability to connect with people. When they went low, she went medium. She explores how people will hate upon your success but it is key to recognize that this is the price of accomplishment.

As today is 8/24, Mamba day, it is only right that we celebrate an individual who captivated the world through his grit, determination and relentless work ethic. The numbers 8 and 24 were on one of the most prolific NBA players to have graced the court, Kobe Bryant. We discuss how his death curated an environment for people of all ages, demographics, creeds to come together and recognize the meaning of love and adoration. Nonetheless, we also talk about how his death shifted a narrative about how black men mourn. Is it ok to be emotionally vulnerable and admit your feelings? We discuss how fatherhood was such a important component of his life and how it impacted my guest, Jamal in his own role as a father of two beautiful children. Success breeds contempt and hate and Kobe always embodied a professional who lived above that. He believed in his capacity to be an excellent professional basketball player but he also believed in the capabilities of the world. Even during his darkest moments including sexual allegations, he challenged himself to do better. Tune in!
