If a light is swung before the altar, then it symbolizes that God is "Jyoti Swarupa" - the proper form of light. The meaning, that camphor is burning in a lamp candlestick, is that the imprisonment will melt like the camphor as the individual soul is one with the highest light of lights. These should not be neglected external symbols on the spiritual path, as they are very helpful. Properly considered, they have in material and spiritual life an important role.
